“I thought it was a routine CT scan.”

Tim Clancy almost didn't go.

He felt fine. No symptoms. No pain. But that routine scan uncovered a large, unstable aneurysm near his heart.

Suddenly, Tim was facing the possibility that the ordinary life he loved with his wife, Jamie, at their animal sanctuary in Codys could be taken from him.

“When I was just 3 years old, my parents packed me up for a full day's drive to Toronto to receive lifesaving heart surgery. Back then, 40 years ago, there was nowhere closer to go.”

Four decades later, everything was different.

This time, the extraordinary cardiac team he needed was right here at home.

Today, Tim is back home with Jamie, caring for their animals and appreciating ordinary days in an entirely new way.

We’re closer than ever. 💙

The Working Wonders: Campaign for Surgical Excellence is nearing the finish line, and for the physicians who perform these complex, life-changing surgeries every day, what comes next will have an incredible impact.

Dr. Jean-François Légaré, Dr. Christopher White, Dr. Najmedden Attabib and Dr. Christopher Small have championed this campaign from the beginning. They know firsthand what these investments will mean for their teams, their patients and the future of surgical care in New Brunswick.

From Atlantic Canada’s first cardiac-enabled Hybrid OR to robotic spine surgery and next-generation imaging, these advancements will help our surgical teams reduce risk, improve outcomes and help patients recover faster, right here at home.

Now, as we get closer to completing this campaign, hear from the physicians who know just how transformational these investments will be.

We’ve come so far. Help us cross the finish line. 💙

Your heart hospital is closer than you may think. ❤️

Right here in Saint John, the New Brunswick Heart Centre provides specialized cardiac care for more than 1 million people across New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

Every year, its teams support more than 26,000 patient visits and perform 750+ cardiac surgeries. Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a family and a moment when having exceptional care close to home matters more than ever.

Donors help ensure our heart specialists have access to the advanced tools and technology they need to make critical decisions, treat increasingly complex conditions and give patients the best chance possible.

As World Heart Day approaches, we’ll be sharing what that looks like through the story of one New Brunswicker whose life changed with a single phone call.

For more than 30 years, George “Big George” Georgoudis has been finding ways to bring people together and give back to the community he loves. 💙

For Barb Murphy, giving back has always been about community.

As a local Tim Hortons restaurant owner with her husband, D’Arcy, Barb has spent years finding meaningful ways to support the people and places around her. From rallying her hockey teammates to enhance hospital gardens to championing community fundraisers, she has long believed in the power of people coming together.

But her connection to Saint John Regional Hospital became much more personal when she found herself needing serious back surgery.

That experience changed the way Barb saw surgical care and strengthened her determination to help ensure patients across New Brunswick can access exceptional care and advanced technology close to home.

Today, she’s bringing that determination to her role as Co-Chair of the $10.5-million Working Wonders Campaign for Surgical Excellence and helping rally the community for one final push at the Gala for Surgical Excellence.

26 years of walking together for stronger hearts. ❤️

For 26 years, the Saint John Cardiac Rehab Walk has brought our community together for something that touches so many of us.

Heart disease doesn’t just affect one person. It affects spouses, children, parents, grandparents, friends and entire families. And when someone you love experiences a cardiac event, surgery or ongoing heart condition, getting home is only part of the journey. Recovery can take time, support and a whole lot of strength.

That’s where the Cardiac Health and Wellness Program at the New Brunswick Heart Centre comes in.

Through Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Heart Function Clinic, patients receive the support they need to regain strength, manage their heart conditions, rebuild confidence and get back to living fuller, healthier lives. Funds raised through the walk help support equipment, staff development and professional growth opportunities that keep these important programs strong.

And our community has made an incredible impact.

Over the past 25 years, walkers, families, donors and supporters have raised approximately $650,000 for this essential program.

This September, we’re coming together for year 26.

Whether heart disease has touched your own life, someone in your family, a friend or a neighbour, this is a chance to walk for them and help make sure patients across New Brunswick have access to the care, support and recovery tools they need, right here at home.

📅 Saturday, September 12, 2026
📍 Market Square & Harbour Passage
👟 Walk begins at 10 a.m.

Join us. Walk for someone you love. Start a team. Fundraise. Make a gift. ❤️

For Lucinda and Little Garry, it’s known simply as “Daddy’s Walk.”

Their father, Garry, was someone who always showed up for others. After his passing from cancer, his wife, Meliza, created Garry’s Legacy, a team that gathers at the Fundy Trail Cancer Walk to remember him and continue helping people, just as he did.

“Daddy always helped people,” Meliza tells their children. “This is how we honour him.”

On Saturday, September 26, we invite you to step forward for someone whose story matters to you.

Walk in memory of someone you love. Support a friend or family member. Honour your own cancer journey. Or simply show up for local patients and families who need to know they are not alone.

Funds raised through the 27th Annual Fundy Cancer Walk will support the Dr. Margot Burnell Cancer Support Program, providing compassionate care and support beyond cancer treatment.

Choose from the new accessible 1 km Survivors Loop or a 2 km, 5 km or 10 km route. Walk, jog or run, and stay to enjoy live entertainment, family-friendly activities and a complimentary BBQ lunch.

Every step tells a story. Who will you walk for?

Join us for the Casino Royale Gala for Surgical Excellence and help us cross the finish line for surgical care in New Brunswick. ✨

📅 October 24, 2026
⏰ 7:00 PM – 11:00 PM

What is a Hybrid OR, and why does it matter for New Brunswick?

Right now, surgeons at the Saint John Regional Hospital perform life-saving procedures every single day. But many of these surgeries require patients to move between different areas of the hospital for imaging and treatment, adding time, risk and complexity.

A Hybrid Operating Room changes everything.

It’s a surgical suite and advanced imaging room combined into one. That means:

✨ Surgeons can see inside the body in real time with 3D, high-definition imaging.
✨ Complex procedures can be done with greater precision, fewer risks and faster recovery.
✨ Patients spend less time in surgery and get home to their families sooner.
✨ New Brunswick becomes a destination of choice for top surgical talent.

Through the Working Wonders Campaign for Surgical Excellence, we are bringing Atlantic Canada’s first cardiac-enabled Hybrid OR to the Saint John Regional Hospital, a once-in-a-generation leap forward for patient care.

And now, we’re almost at the finish line.

The Casino Royale Gala for Surgical Excellence comes at an incredibly exciting moment in the campaign. We’re closer than ever to reaching our goal, and we hope this special evening will help us close the Working Wonders Campaign and bring this vision to life.

Join us on October 24 for an unforgettable evening and help us finish what we started, transforming what’s possible for patients and families across our province for generations to come.

Because every New Brunswicker deserves the very best care, right here at home.

✨ Get your Gala tickets and help us cross the finish line together.
