ππ± GROW YOUR BRAIN β OUR TEENAGERS HAVE GRADUATED & ππ± IT'S MOVING DAY! π±πππ
Wellβ¦ it happened. Our little tomato seedlings grew up! π₯Ήπ
From tiny seeds, to toddlers, to those awkward gangly teenage yearsβ¦ our tomato teenagers have officially graduated and moved into their college dorms! πππ±
And apparently they wanted BIG dorm rooms!!
πͺ£ For reference β those are 20-GALLON cow feed buckets they are living in now! π²
WOW. Talk about a growth spurt! π±
There is something pretty incredible about remembering that every one of these plants started as a tiny seed in our Grow Your Brain Group and they are grown entirely indoors in a frosted window.
For people recovering from brain injuries, gardening can be so much more than growing food. π§ π
Planting, watering, transplanting, problem-solving and adapting when things don't go quite as planned all give our brains opportunities to practice, learn and create new pathways β that's neuroplasticity in action! π±π§
Gardening also encourages memory, planning, fine-motor skills, sensory engagement, patience and routine. And perhaps just as importantly, it gives us something to nurture, look forward to and celebrate together. π
π
And then we get TOMATOES!
Tomatoes are a wonderful addition to a brain-healthy diet. They're packed with nutrients, including lycopene and vitamin C, along with other antioxidants and plant compounds that help support overall health. β€οΈπ§
And growing food ourselves brings another kind of nourishment β learning where our food comes from, building confidence and food skills, and discovering that even a tiny seed can become something pretty amazing. π±β‘οΈπ
π A HUGE thank you to the people who helped our little tomato graduates get this far:
π± West Coast Seeds β for the incredible donation of seeds that helped make our Grow Your Brain program possible. We truly couldn't have started this journey without you!
πͺ£ Our wonderful local farming families β thank you for donating these HUGE 20-gallon cow feed buckets and helping our plants find their new college dorms!
πͺ΅ Smithers Lumber Yard β thank you for generously supporting us with materials and helping us continue to grow, build and learn.
From a tiny seedβ¦
π± we grow food.
π§ we grow our brains.
π we grow confidence.
π€ and we grow community.
Now the question isβ¦ just how big are these college kids going to get?! ππ
