Building Community Support for Aboriginal Youth

Building Community Support for Aboriginal Youth Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS) in partnership with the University of Northern BC (UNBC), funded by CIHR.

The goal of this five year project is to build community capacity in su***de prevention by reconnecting youth and Elders and to engage in cultural activities. The idea is to challenge western models of su***de prevention in favour of culturally based community interventions. One method of su***de resilience is to promote youth getting in touch with their culture and traditions. Studies have shown

that pride in one’s culture and heritage is an effective means of su***de prevention and building self-esteem.

We are looking for Youth to participate and complete a digital storytelling project! The themes will be based around Carrier Culture and the Bah'lats.
