Looking for a meaningful way to give back?

Prairie Strides volunteers help children living with disabilities build confidence, create connections and experience the joy of working with horses. We have a variety of volunteer roles, some require horse experience, while others don’t. Whatever your skills, there’s a place for you, and training is provided for every position.

Earlier this year, two of our amazing volunteers shared their Prairie Strides stories with Aaron Epp of the Winnipeg Free Press. Now that the article is available to everyone, we’re excited to share their journeys and the impact of volunteering on our blog.

Prairie Strides is excited to offer our Horsin’ Around Activities Program for children ages 5–15 with disabilities.

Throughout August, participants can choose from a variety of FREE adaptive activities designed to get kids active, exploring and trying something new.

🐴 Horse grooming
🌿 Outdoor adventures
🏃 Active games
🐎 Horse-related learning and fun
🐻‍❄️ A special zoo adventure

Families can select the activities that work best for their schedules.

Thanks to the generous support of The Winnipeg Foundation, all activities are FREE! 💚

July is Disability Pride Month...

At Prairie Strides, we’re privileged to witness the courage, determination, joy, and accomplishments of the children and youth who ride with us. Every lesson reminds us that inclusion creates opportunities for confidence, connection, and growth.

This month, we celebrate our riders, their families, and everyone working toward a more inclusive community.

What a wonderful evening!

Our annual BBQ brought together riders, volunteers, families, and friends for an evening filled with food, laughter, and community. From games and barn tours to balloon animals and volunteer recognition, it was a celebration of everything that makes Prairie Strides so special.

And yes... Horse P**p Bingo was back! Babe kept everyone in suspense by refusing to cooperate, so our winner was chosen by ticket draw instead. Congratulations to Shaun, winner of $2,200 with ticket #0827.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, and helped make the evening such a success. Your support helps Prairie Strides continue to provide adaptive horse-riding programs for children and youth with disabilities in our community.
