Helloooo blue crew community!
It’s been a minute now hasn’t it! I apologize for that. But I am back and better than ever with lots of ideas to help grow our blue crew community!
Every month I’d like to do a Spotlight Umpire of the Month!
This is to showcase someone who’s shown exceptional skills, knowledge, and love for the sport of softball and umpiring.
Now there are many people I could post about each month but I’m only going to do 1.
If you know of an umpire you’d like to help get in the spotlight to showcase their talents, give me a DM with a few pictures of them in action, as well as a little description why they should be umpire of the month, and they could possibly be in our spotlight.
To kick things off, I’d like to introduce myself since I don’t think I ever really have or it’s been quite a while since I last did.
I am Chantal Girouard, I’m originally from Carman, MB. I grew up in a small town playing lots of sports, with one of my favourites being softball and baseball. I started playing when I was about 9 or 10 years old, and I’ve been umpiring since I was 15 years old.
I will be going into my 9th season of umpiring coming up and still loving every minute of it.
As I advanced in my levels, my skills and knowledge grew, and so did my opportunities.
I’ve had the privilege of being sent to BC and AB for championships and each time it’s been incredible.
The last few years I have also had the opportunity to be to on the UDC (Umpire Developmental Committee, for Manitoba) and from there began running the social media pages. You can now find our Blue Crew on Instagram, Facebook, and even TikTok.
During the season you’ll often see me on the outskirts of the fences taking photos or videos of umpires in action. Which I try later to post at some point.
My goal with these pages are to reach out, not only the blue crew we already have, but to reach new potential umpires and encourage them to join our welcoming community and show them all the benefits of being an umpire.
Thank you everyone!
