🌟 Happy World Occupational Therapy Day! 🌟

Today we’re celebrating the important role occupational therapy plays in helping children participate in the everyday activities that make up childhood!

Pediatric OTs support children with play, fine motor development, eating, dressing, sensory processing, and daily routines. They work alongside families and caregivers to build on each child’s strengths and find practical strategies that support participation in everyday life.

A big shout-out to Lynne and Robyn, our two amazing pediatric OTs! Thank you for the creativity, compassion, and care you bring to the children and families you support.

Did you know? You can refer children from birth to kindergarten entry who have, or are at risk of, developmental delays to our PT/OT Early Intervention Program. Services are free to eligible families!

At Kootenay Kids Society, we believe our strongest ideas come from the communities we serve. That's why we're inviting you to become a member!

You don't need to have children enrolled in our programs or be accessing our services to become a member. If you care about supporting children, youth, and families in our region, we'd love to have you join us.

The Provincial Government is currently seeking input from educators, operators, and families about the future of child care in BC. Recently, there has been a pause on the expansion of the $10/day universal child care initiative with the government moving into a three year stabilization period. This consultation opportunity may shape what this stabilization and reshaping looks like. It is an opportunity to share your experiences and perspectives on what is working well in the current system and what improvements you would like to see in the future. This is open to families accessing care, and those without.

We encourage everyone to learn more and really think about their hopes for childcare before filling out the survey. We are hopeful that a wide range of perspectives will be represented in a meaningful way!

This Survey is open until July 9th.

Last week, our child care centres came together for a wonderful Professional Development Day! 🌿✨

We toured all three of our child care programs, spent time learning about our local landscape and plants with Bren from KinSeed Ecologies, and got creative with our very own Ray-Ann, who taught us felting techniques to craft a beautiful forest of handmade trees.

A huge thank you to La Ruelle Bakery, Abby Wilson Art, Oso Negro Cafe, Ainsworth Hot Springs, Marzano's Restaurant, Tapatia Dance Collective, and the Kootenay Co-op for your generous door prize donations. Your support helped make the day even more special for our team! 💛

We're so grateful for these opportunities to create, connect, and learn from each other so we can keep providing thoughtful, responsive, and high-quality care and education opportunities for the children and families in our community.
