Nova was born with a congenital wry neck, a condition that causes her head and neck to tilt to one side. Due to her condition, she was unable to nurse from her mom and had to be bottle fed by holding her head and neck.

Congenital can defects often lead animals to be overlooked, rehomed, or culled because they are not candidates for breeding and in a farm setting quality of life may be considered. We are very grateful to the farmer who reached out and gave us Nova and Tiki. Both came otherwise healthy and eager to drink off the bottle, which makes raising babies easier.

Today, Nova is a healthy, happy member of our special needsflock. She spends her days grazing, following her friends, showing off for grain, and staying close to the people she trusts. Nova's companion is Tiki, but she loves the slow living pace of her besties Buddy & Baby. She enjoys her afternoon naps with them both. We leave pillows in the barns and around the property so she can choose her favorite spot to rest.

Nova doesn't know she was born different. She doesn't know she was given a diagnosis. She simply gets up each day and lives her life.

What would you like Nova to know? ❀️

I'll go first...You can't save them all.

You can do everything right. Lose sleep. Spend the money. Give your time, your energy, and your whole heart.

But none of those things can buy the precious gift we're given by sharing this beautiful planet with another living being.
Love doesn't always change the outcome.

Sometimes all we can do is make sure they were loved while they were here.

What's a lesson life taught you the hard way? Share yours in the comments. ❀️πŸ₯ΉπŸ‘‰πŸ½πŸ‘ˆπŸ½πŸ

πŸ‘ BLIND SHEEP SHELTER UPDATE πŸ‘

Many of you have asked for an update on the blind sheep shelter, so here it is.

When our blind sheep first arrived, we needed a safe place for them quickly. With donated materials, reclaimed lumber, and the help of volunteers, we built them a barn using parts of an existing build. It wasn't fancy, but it gave them safety, shelter, and a place to learn their surroundings.

Over the last year, that little barn has become home to sheep like Lagertha, Giesela and Moku.

Unfortunately, the shelter was built on what used to be part of our garden. The ground stays wet, and because it sits on a slope, the soil shifts during wet weather. Over time, the building has started to shift too.

The roof is noticeably slanted now, and some of the structure is beginning to fail.

Our goal is to move the shelter to higher, drier ground and make the repairs needed to ensure it remains safe for the sheep who depend on it.

Last week's fundraiser raised $66.66 with another amazing donation from Lisa this week of $250 towards the shelter and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated. Every dollar helps. We are at $316 of a $1000 fundraising goal to make this project move forward! πŸ’•

Volunteer Appreciation πŸ‘πŸ’–πŸŒ±

Our volunteers come from all over the world, bringing different languages, cultures, experiences, and stories. Yet despite all of our differences, we are united by one thing: a love for animals and a belief that every life matters.

Together we share meals, laughter, hard work, muddy boots, early mornings, late nights, and countless unforgettable moments with the animals who call this place home.

The reality is that Kootenay Acres Farm Sanctuary would not exist without these incredible humans. They help feed, clean, build, medicate, cuddle, comfort, and advocate for animals who deserve a second chance.

We are endlessly grateful for every volunteer who has chosen to spend part of their journey with us. Thank you for sharing your hearts, your hands, and your kindness.

The animals may not understand how far you've traveled to be here, but they feel your love every single day. And so do we!!!!!! β€οΈπŸ‘πŸπŸŒŽ

πŸπŸπŸ’• Who gets your cuddles first!!? Let us know!⬇️

Rio's story began with uncertainty. He spent his early life with an older rancher who cared deeply for him. When the rancher passed away, Rio became part of an estate sale. Like so many horses in Canada, he suddenly found himself without a guaranteed future.

The reality is that horses are often treated as disposable when they are no longer wanted, useful, or affordable. The market is flooded with horses, and many struggle to find safe homes. In Rio's case, the estate was given just one week to find him a home before he was sent to auction. We didn't have a plan. We didn't have a budget. We simply knew we couldn't let him take that risk. So we said yes.
Today Rio is safe, loved, and exactly where he belongs. Thank you to our new sponsors Josh & Elena.

If you've never spent time with a turkey, you're missing out on one of the sweetest animals you'll ever meet. Dipsy is gentle, curious, affectionate, and full of personality. She follows her boyfriend rooster everywhere, enjoys attention and eating treats from your hand, and reminds us every day how misunderstood turkeys are. We're so grateful to Josh & Elena in helping us give her the life every turkey deserves.

Some stories feel almost impossible. Giesela arrived at the sanctuary blind and facing an uncertain future. Despite her disability, she quickly showed us that blindness doesn't stop a sheep from living a full and joyful life. We brought her to Sanctuary a year ago when a farmer reached out. He said from his heart "you always hope that some of them end up in good homes, and I know in this case they will." Giesela is sponsored by Leslie.

Then came Moku. Moku was a complete surprise. When Giesela gave birth, we discovered her lamb was blind too. Today, mother and daughter navigate the world together. They rely on trust, familiar voices, and each other.
Their story is a reminder that lives don't lose their value because they are different.....❀️❀️ Moku is sponsored by Annie & Danica.

To our sponsors: thank you. Your support means everything these animals to be able to live safe and happy lives. Most importantly, it tells these animals that someone out there believes their lives matter.
