Join Nelson4Palestine on Monday, June 29 for “FOOD, LOVE & RESISTANCE”, a fundraiser feast prepared by renowned Palestinian chef Izzeldin Bukhari with storytelling and live music. Doors open at 5pm and dinner is 5:30-8:30pm.
Tickets available at Notably Bookstore 454 Ward Street, Nelson (cash only), or online here for a sliding scale of $40 - $75. There are also a limited number of $25 low income/youth tickets available as everyone should be able to come! The chef is able to accommodate gluten free and vegan diets.
Jerusalem-based chef Izzeldin Bukhari will share traditional Palestinian foods and delight you with stories about the dishes’ ingredients, history and how they are part of Palestinian culture.  Learn about how food can be part of cultural resistance.  As Izzeldin says,
“Rich in nutritious ingredients and flavorful spices that are bound to the land, Palestinian food has made a deep impact on Mediterranean cuisine at large.
We are home to dishes that reflect our ancestors’ deep understanding of their soil, their ingredients, and their homeland.
Our aim is to keep that tradition alive, despite the relentless political and cultural pressures threatening its existence, and share that with the world.”

Supporting others by attending
As well as being an amazing dinner and opportunity to learn, this evening event is also a fundraiser.  Thirty percent of the proceeds (plus additional donations) will go to support orphans in Gaza, to Autonomous Sinixt in our own region (sinixt.org), and to Unarmed Civilian Protection in Palestine (ucpip.org).

We hope to see you at the Rod & Gun club on June 29th. Invite your people because this fundraiser has been curated with so much love that you’ll find yourself mesmerized by all its beauty, flavours and sounds.

Cookbook Club!
Tabkha is a cookbook created by chef Mona Zaed within the Gaza strip; she used to run a restaurant there but due the constant attacks she lost along everything else except for the hope and strength to keep working with what she still has: Love and pride for their heritage, passed on with food culture.

Tabkha is the fruit of a world wide graphic artist collaboration, and with the solid support of SlingShot publisher is now at its 3rd printed edition.

Every copy purchased of Tabkha finances directly Mona’s school project in a tent in Gaza; every recipe you will cook will open a door to a new story... the story of those ingredients, those landscapes and their plants and colours, those aromas and flavours that are now doomed under dust and rubble.

By bringing Tabkha to the Nelson Library we are purposely offering families in our community an opportunity to connect with Palestine and the international solidarity movement in a healthy and creative way. If you borrow this book don’t let it sit on your shelves, but go through its pages, pick and try different recipes and I can guarantee you that not only your tummy will be happy but your heart will feel lighter.

We will gather to share our experiences and platters and very soon we will announce a date for a very first “live Palestinian dinner”, with cooking class and more! Read more at nelson4palestine.com

Join us for the Ban Israeli Wine rally Sat May 9th 3-5pm at the BC Government Liquor store. 209 Anderson St, Nelson. Bring your signs and your voices. We will have a petition to sign and pamphlets to hand out.

Ban Israeli Wine is a BC-based campaign urging the provincial government to ban the sale of Israeli wine to respect obligations under international law and appeals from the Palestinian-led Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

For years, the Canada Palestine Association, BDS Vancouver, and supporters have been calling on the BC government to ban Israeli wines in order to put pressure on Israel to abide by international law. The BC government has consistently refused. This is despite the fact that BC has imposed sanctions on alcohol products from both Russia (2022) and US red states (2025). However, despite the genocide, Premier Eby refuses to ban Israeli wines.
