Today is a big day for some of our VI Fluffle buns! ❤️ Vincent, Bunbun, Hermione, Heather, Willow, and Andy are all heading in for their spay/neuter procedures, and once they’ve recovered, they’ll be ready to find their forever homes! 🏡🐇

Spaying and neutering is one of the most important parts of responsible rabbit rescue. It helps prevent unwanted litters, reduces certain health risks, and gives our bunnies the best chance at a happy, healthy future. But vet care comes with costs, and every procedure adds up!

Happy Tails: Kizu & Marshal!

We just love a happy update from home, and Kizu is doing fantastic! 🥹❤️ After everything this sweet boy went through before coming into our care with his “melted face,” seeing him thrive in his forever home makes it all worthwhile.

His beautiful facial fur has almost completely grown back, and he’s settling into the good life! Kizu loves playing with his stacking cups and happily accepts pets while lounging in his flip bed. It sounds like he’s truly found his happy place!

Even better, this wonderful family also adopted Marshal, and they’ve shared that both boys are thriving!

From healing and uncertainty to comfort, enrichment, and a family who adores them, this is exactly what rescue is all about. Every rabbit deserves the chance to feel safe, loved, and at home.

Thank you to Kizu and Marshal’s family for giving these boys such a wonderful life and for sharing their happy update with us!

Why Spaying and Neutering Matters for Your Bunny 🐇

Spaying and neutering can help your bunny live a longer, healthier life while improving their wellbeing.

Protecting their health 🏥
Spaying and neutering prevent cancers in the reproductive organs removed during surgery, including uterine, ovarian, and testicular cancers. According to Oxbow Animal Health, unspayed female rabbits have up to a 65% chance of developing uterine cancer by age four. Spaying before disease develops prevents this cancer.

Friendlier behaviour and better habits 🐾
Spaying and neutering can reduce hormone-driven territorial behaviours, such as biting, lunging, and growling when someone enters your bunny’s space. With less hormonal frustration, some bunnies become calmer, friendlier, and more affectionate. It can also reduce urine spraying and unwanted marking, making litter box training easier. Their individual personality still shines through!

Helping with companionship 🔗
Reducing hormonal aggression towards other rabbits and pets can make introductions easier. Spaying and neutering are important steps towards bonding rabbits, although patience and careful introductions are still needed.

Preventing unwanted litters 🧺
Rabbits can reproduce from a young age. Spaying and neutering prevent accidental litters and help reduce the number of rabbits needing homes.

When should it be done? 🗓️
Spaying and neutering are generally planned around three to six months, depending on your bunny’s s*x, size, development, and health. Your rabbit-savvy vet can recommend the best timing. Older rabbits can still benefit, but may need additional screening and take longer to recover.

Choosing the right vet 🩺
All surgery and anaesthesia carry risks, but for most healthy rabbits, the benefits outweigh them. Choose a rabbit-savvy vet experienced in rabbit surgery, anaesthesia, pain relief, and recovery care.

Hormones don’t disappear overnight! Behaviour changes may take several weeks to a couple of months after surgery.

VI Fluffle is excited to announce that registration is now open for our upcoming Parksville RHDV vaccine clinic at our 3rd annual Hop Into Winter event!

📅 Date: Saturday, November 14, 2026
⏰ Time: 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
📍 Location: Parksville Community Centre, Parksville, BC (Hop Into Winter Event)
💉 Cost: $50 for the first bunny, $40 for each additional bunny

Some bunnies are a little shy about asking for attention… but not Harry! 🥹

Born in spring 2026, Harry was one of our special bottle babies, and he’s grown into the sweetest, most people-oriented little guy. He’s outgoing, loves being around his humans, and absolutely cannot get enough head rubs! Seriously, if you have hands available for pets, Harry would like to speak with you. 😂❤️

Now neutered and ready for his next adventure, Harry is looking for a family who wants a bunny to truly be part of their lives. He’d love a home that offers plenty of daily interaction, enrichment, and all the affection his little heart desires.

Happy Thanksgiving from VI Fluffle Rescue Society! 🍂

This Thanksgiving, we’re feeling especially grateful for our wonderful community, our dedicated volunteers and fosters, our generous donors, and every family who has opened their hearts and homes to a rescue bunny. 🧡

Because of your kindness and support, rabbits who once had uncertain futures are getting the chance to experience safety, comfort, and love. Every adoption, donation, foster home, and share makes a difference, and we couldn’t do what we do without you!

We’re also sending a little extra love to all the bunnies still waiting for their forever homes. We hope their first Thanksgiving with us is just the beginning of a much brighter future. 🐇🍁

Remember our beautiful harlequin girl, Petunia? 💕
Petunia came into our care after being found near Gardenworks in poor condition. We suspected a serious uterine infection had left her incredibly weak, but with proper care, good food, and a safe place to recover, she made an amazing comeback!
Now, Petunia is enjoying life in foster care while she waits for someone to fall in love with her. After everything this girl has overcome, we would love nothing more than to see her find a family of her very own. 🌷
Every rescue rabbit deserves more than just a safe place to land. They deserve a home where they can settle in, feel secure, and be loved for the rest of their lives. Petunia's next chapter is waiting, and we hope it includes YOU! 🏡💗

🐰 Sweet Oliver is ready to find his people! 💛

Remember our little self-appointed rescue guest? Oliver somehow managed to wander right into one of our rescue x-pens because apparently he decided it was time to move in. 😂

Born last summer, Oliver has now been neutered and is settling into rescue life beautifully.

He’s a shy boy, but underneath that initial hesitation is the sweetest little personality. He can take some time to warm up and may not be the bunny who immediately comes running over to greet you—but give him patience, a little time, and a safe environment, and he really starts to blossom. 🥹

Oliver would love a quiet, understanding home where he can build confidence at his own pace and have someone who appreciates the magic of earning a shy bunny’s trust.

Sometimes the quiet ones are the ones who steal your heart the most. ❤️

Understanding Your Rabbit’s Coat — Part 2: The Care 🐇

Rabbits are serious groomers! They spend lots of time keeping themselves clean and shed throughout the year, with several heavier molts. During a heavy molt, your bunny may need brushing more often to keep up with all that loose fur. Don’t be surprised if a heavy molt looks patchy — some rabbits shed in noticeable tufts or lines!

Unlike cats, rabbits cannot vomit swallowed fur. It normally passes through their digestive system, but during heavy molts they can swallow much more fur. If gut movement slows, fur and food can accumulate and cause digestive problems. Gentle brushing with a rabbit-friendly comb or brush removes loose fur before your bunny does! Grass hay provides fibre to help keep their digestive system moving..

🪮 Be gentle with that fluff!

Rabbit skin is surprisingly thin and delicate, so grooming should be gentle. Mats can pull painfully on the skin and cause irritation or infection.

Long-haired rabbits such as Angoras need frequent grooming because their coats can mat quickly. Some also need clipping or shearing to stay healthy and comfortable. Never pull hard on a mat or cut close to the skin with scissors — rabbit skin is easy to accidentally cut.

🛁 Skip the bath!

Rabbits are naturally very clean animals and normally don’t need baths. Their dense coats can take a long time to dry, and becoming wet and chilled can lead to hypothermia. Bathing can also be extremely stressful.

If your bunny has a dirty bottom or suddenly isn’t keeping themselves clean, don’t reach for the bathtub. A persistently dirty or poorly groomed coat can be a sign something else is going on and may need a rabbit-savvy veterinarian.

🐰 Did you know?

Ever wonder why your rabbit rubs their chin on everything? Rabbits have a scent gland underneath their chin! When they “chin” toys, furniture, their food bowl or even you, they’re leaving behind their scent and marking familiar territory.

Regular brushing also lets you check their skin for irritation, wounds, lumps or signs of parasites.
