Looking back at May, we had such a refreshing evening at the East Lions Community Centre for our Hydration Workshop! Together, we explored how to craft vibrant, flavour-packed beverages that prioritise hydration and nutrition without relying on added sugar.

Participants rotated through four interactive hands-on stations:
- The Blender Station: Blending fresh watermelon, lime, mint, and coconut water.
- The Muddle Station: Smashing Vitamin C-rich berries with fresh basil.
- The "Ginger Kick" Fizz: Crafting a zesty mix of fresh citrus and zero-sugar ginger beer.
- The Tea Station: Brewing crisp iced black tea with lemon and natural sweeteners.

A few favourite moments from the night:
- A Surprise Crowd Favourite: So many participants discovered for the first time that they actually love ginger beer—the "Ginger Kick" Fizz took the crown as the overall favourite drink of the evening!
- A Special Birthday Celebration: One of our wonderful young regulars asked to spend his birthday in the kitchen with us alongside his family! Seeing his colourful rainbow of handmade drink samples lined up was the sweetest way to celebrate. 🎂🌈
- Kitchen Confidence: From waking up fresh herbs to release their natural oils to mastering balanced simple syrups and blender safety, everyone walked away with handy techniques to stay refreshed all season long.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to learn, create, and share with us, and to East Lions Community Centre for hosting our community kitchen space! 💛

Looking back on our June youth session at Growing Chefs Headquarters, and we’re still thinking about how delicious the kitchen smelled that night!

We celebrated peak berry season by baking up a warm, wholesome Berry Crumble. It was a sweet treat made with wholesome ingredients—honest-to-goodness nutritious enough that you could eat it for breakfast! 🥣😋

We had a full house of energetic youth taking over the kitchen stations. Teams worked together to master the oat crumble topping and practice oven timing, while also tackling the chilled coconut milk trick to whip up a dairy-free coconut topping from scratch. 🥥

Inclusive community cooking is always our top priority. Since the main recipe included dairy, participants making the vegan alternative got to cook their own custom, single-serving portions right alongside the group. To date, we haven’t met a dietary restriction or accessibility need we couldn't accommodate. We always encourage everyone to share any dietary, physical, or sensory accommodation needs when signing up. If we ever have questions, we reach out via email beforehand to ensure everything is set up for a great experience! 💛

To cap off an awesome evening, everyone headed home with $20 in Harvest Bucks to spend on fresh, local produce in the community! 🛒📍

Looking back at our workshop at Reimagine Co., and our community kitchen was buzzing with delicious flavours! Together, we built a full, satisfying Mediterranean spread completely from scratch—no stovetop required.

For those new to it, a mezze is a traditional style of dining made up of a selection of small, flavourful dishes served to share. It's all about bringing people together over great food, vibrant colours, and fresh ingredients! 🌟

Working in teams, participants took on classic mezze staples:
✨ Tabbouleh: Mincing heaps of fresh herbs and practicing knife techniques for spring veggies.
✨ Rustic Hummus: Mashing chickpeas by hand and customizing it with lemon, garlic, tahini, and za’atar.
✨ Quick-Pickled Radishes: Adding a crisp, colourful crunch to the platter.

We love that our recipes are always modifiable! Teams had complete creative freedom to make the dishes their own—some groups preferred a super smooth hummus, while others went for a chunkier, rustic style, or tuned the tanginess of their tabbouleh to perfection.

Once the prep was complete, everyone set their tables up family-style—including our amazing facilitators and volunteers—and sat down to chat, connect, and enjoy the feast with warm pita bread. 🫓💛

Sweet flavours and even sweeter moments! 😋🌠Here’s a look back at our Berry Sweet Jam-making workshop.

Participants explored the art and science of jam-making, from the role of pectin to mastering the “set test.” Everyone got hands-on, turning fresh berries into small-batch creations.🍓🫐🍯

We loved seeing everyone get involved in the process, learning how to balance fruit, sugar, and pectin to build flavour, and working together to create a delicious fridge jam.👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳 The highlight was watching each participant proudly take home their very own jar of homemade goodness!✨🫙🏅

Although we made a fridge jam intended for short-term refrigerated storage, our live water-bath canning demonstration introduced participants to safe, long-term preservation methods they can try at home.🏠

As always, the creativity and energy in the room made this workshop unforgettable.🤩⚡️

We’re so grateful to our amazing community for showing up, learning, and growing with us.

Another month, another wonderful youth workshop. 🍝✨Thank you to all our wonderful participants and friends who made our Alfredo Alchemist workshop a blast.

Looking back at our Hosting the Holiday Dinner workshop at Growing Chefs Headquarters, and we are still so impressed! This was another sold-out youth workshop—it has been amazing to see so many of you eager to jump into the kitchen this season. 📈

Mastering a full holiday meal is all about timing and teamwork, and everyone did an excellent job. We practiced our "turkey rehearsal" on whole chickens, mastering the bird breakdown and that all-important herb butter trick for perfectly crispy skin.

A huge shout-out to our partners at Youth Wellness Hub London-Middlesex (YWHO) for supporting this session and helping London youth build these foundational kitchen skills! 🤝💛

The highlights:
🌟 The "Mini Turkeys": Everyone crushed the roasting process, achieving juicy results and golden skin.
🌟 The Mash: Groups put a wonderful spin on their mashed potatoes, experimenting with different seasonings.
🌟 The Sweet Side: We practiced stove-top glazing with brown sugar and dill carrots.
🌟 Gravy 101: We turned those pan drippings into a rich, savoury gravy from scratch.

It was wonderful to see everyone sitting down together for a family-style feast afterward. You are all officially ready to lead the kitchen at your next big gathering! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

Soy You Think You Can Sushi? Recap! 🍣🥢

Looking back at our March youth workshop, and we are still buzzing from the energy! This session was a complete sell-out—a common trend for our youth sessions lately—and we were so happy to have the kitchen packed with people ready to roll.

A huge thank you to our partners at Youth Wellness Hub London-Middlesex (YWHO) for helping us bring these workshops to life for local youth! 🤝💛

Everyone was incredibly patient while learning the technique. Rolling sushi for the first time takes a steady hand, and we watched the rolls look more and more professional as the night went on. We focused on building kitchen confidence while experimenting with a massive spread of ingredients, including:
✨ Pickled turnip
✨ Shrimp
✨ Cream cheese
✨ Bean curd
✨ Plus every fresh veggie you can think of!

Participants mastered two distinct styles:
🍱 Hosomaki: The thin, classic style with the seaweed (nori) on the outside and rice on the inside.
🍱 Uramaki: The "inside-out" roll where the rice is on the outside, often topped with seeds or garnishes.

We are so proud of the creativity and the focus everyone brought to the table. Just look at these results! 🤩
