What if a pair of glasses could change the way children sees their future? 🤓 Before João and Henrique received theirs, the world was blurry.

They struggled with headaches, bumped into things. Following lessons at school was difficult because they couldn't always see what was written on the board. When they told their teacher, they were told they weren't trying hard enough.

When the local Compassion centre noticed that many children were facing the same challenge, they organized eye exams and provided glasses to children who needed them.

For many, it felt like a gift their families could never have afforded. 🎁 “When the auntie said we would receive the glasses for free, I was even happier and more grateful,” one child says.

What is amazing of this story is children discovering they can learn with confidence, students who no longer feel left behind in class and many seeing the pages of a schoolbook clearly for the first time.

And it's about children beginning to believe in possibilities they couldn't see before. “Now that I can see well, everything is better,” says 11-year-old Geovania. “My dream is to be a doctor.”

Sometimes the barrier between a child and their dream is smaller than we think. A pair of glasses and an eye exam.

Lisa is 15 years old and has undergone 11 surgeries throughout her life. Her story brings an important question: What does it look like to care for someone the way Jesus does? 🏥

Sometimes, it means showing up in a hospital waiting room, sitting beside a teenager who feels alone and helping a child get the medical care they need to keep moving forward.

Lisa knows what that kind of care feels like. The last two surgeries she had were made possible through a Compassion intervention that helped cover the cost of her treatment. 💛

But Lisa's story is not only about surgery. It's about a mother who never stopped showing up. A church that welcomed her when she felt isolated. Friends who helped her believe she belonged.

A youth leader who made sure she wasn't left out. "When Lisa first came to this church, she was afraid of the other youth," her pastor remembers. "But after we shared God's love with her, she became confident."

Caring for another person often looks practical. It means seeing a need and moving toward it with compassion.

For Lisa, that care helped provide medical support, friendship, encouragement and hope. 🙌

Today, she continues her education, grows in her faith and dreams about her future.

More than 25 years ago, author and speaker Phil Callaway chose to sponsor a child through Compassion.

What began with one child became a lifelong conviction. "Compassion is 100% Jesus-centred." 💒

What happens when disaster strikes a community that was already carrying more than its share of hardship?

In El Chocó, Colombia, Pastor Jhon's home was severely damaged by the 7.4 earthquake. Today, he and his family sleep on thin mattresses laid on the floor of their cracked house.

But when he looks around his community, he doesn't see only what was lost.

He sees children who need a meal, parents wondering how they'll provide for their families and neighbours who need hope.

So instead of focusing on his own needs, he opened the church doors.
Together with church members, parents and Compassion, Pastor Jhon helped start a community kitchen, preparing warm meals for children and families affected by the earthquake.

"A house is made of brick and concrete, and those can be rebuilt," he says. "But hope? If a child loses hope, that is something you cannot simply buy back."

And because of your generosity, hope is showing up. Together, Compassion Canada supporters have raised more than $61,000 toward the Colombia Earthquake Response.

Thank you for standing with local churches as they respond with courage and compassion.

And thank you for being part of a movement that sees people, carries burdens and reminds children and families that they are not alone.

The dust has not settled yet. But hope is rising. 💙

We're grateful to our Compassion friend, Crystal Lavallee, Founder and National Director of I Am Compelled Collective, for sharing her heart with us. 🧡

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a time to honour Survivors of Indian residential schools, remember the children who never made it home and recognize the lasting impact on families and Indigenous communities today.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to respond with compassion, to seek truth, to pursue justice and to love our neighbours.

"When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Matthew 9:36

Today, we remember. We listen. And we commit to walking in right relationship, respect and love.

Have you ever wondered what the centre of the child you sponsor attends is really like? 🤔

Not just the building, but the people, the leaders, the place where children learn, play, pray and are reminded that they are known and loved.

Meet Jackson. Today, he leads a Compassion centre in Rwanda. He mentors children, supports families and works alongside the local church to create opportunities for the next generation.

But years ago, Jackson was one of those children. He attended the same centre where he now serves.

Someone invested in him, encouraged him and walked alongside him. And over time, the place that helped shape his future became the place where he chose to give back.

Stories like Jackson's remind us that local churches are places of real change. 🚀

They are where transformation often continues long after a child leaves the program.

Poverty is expensive. Not because things cost more, but because they cost more of your life.

For Fabricio, a bottle of clean drinking water can represent hours of work. A water filter can cost nearly a full week's wages.

A delayed paycheque can mean there is no food on the table that night.
And yet he keeps going.

He wakes up before sunrise. He works seven days a week and takes any job he can find because five people are depending on him.

Still, hard work is not always enough. "We don't have much choice about what we eat each day," says 10-year-old Francielly. "When there's corn flour, we eat corn flour. When there are eggs, we eat eggs. And when there's nothing, we eat nothing."

This story is not about giving up. It's about a family that refuses to.

A father who walks his children to school, even when it's a long journey. A mother who keeps believing in a better future. A daughter who helps her father learn to read after he returns from work each evening.

And a local church that keeps showing up. The Compassion centre provides food, encouragement and a place where children can experience things they don't have access to at home. 💒

Most importantly, it reminds them of something poverty can never take away. Their value. "I believe God is always by my side," says Francielly. "He answers all my prayers, especially those invisible things I ask Him: love and happiness."

How much does poverty cost? For families like this one, the answer is measured in hours worked, opportunities missed and difficult choices made every day.

But hope has a cost too. It costs someone choosing to care. It costs the local church showing up. And it costs a community refusing to let a family struggle alone.
