A few months ago, Compassion supporters from across Canada gathered for Rejoice, a virtual event to hear directly from pastors, alumni, church partners and staff on the front lines of this work. πŸŽ‰

What we heard is still echoing in our hearts. πŸ’™

At Compassion, we often talk about a global tapestry. A movement woven together by local churches, children, sponsors, volunteers, donors, prayer partners and staff.

At Rejoice, we got to see that tapestry up close. πŸ™ We heard from pastors and alumni who reminded us that this work is deeply relational.

"You are God's answer to my prayers."
"Letters helped us dream and see another reality."
"It’s not common for us to hear someone loves us."

One Compassion alumni shared that it took years to understand he was not a mistake.

Another spoke about how a sponsor's encouragement helped him see a different future: "You're worth more than a gang member. You can be a preacher."

We were reminded that poverty is about more than material need. "Poverty is not just the lack of things. It's the lack of dignity."

And we were reminded of the power of simple acts of connection. "Most kids never receive a letter. When they do, it means someone cares." "When your letter shows up, it becomes a light in their year," shared a pastor from the Dominican Republic.

But perhaps one of the most powerful messages of the evening was this:
"You're not just changing one child's life. You're enabling a church to transform a community." πŸ’’

We are brothers and sisters in Christ, many voices, many languages, many stories, woven together by a shared mission to see children known, loved and given the opportunity to thrive.

These moments remind us that partnership is never one-sided. Supporters are not just supporters. They are co-labourers in Christ.

Thank you for being part of this movement. Thank you for your prayers, your letters, your generosity and your encouragement.

Together, we're helping release children from poverty in Jesus' name. πŸ’™

Summer in Canada often means long weekends, sunshine, cold treats and finding ways to stay cool with family and friends. In El Salvador, summer brings something else too.

Temperatures can climb above 40Β°C, making the hottest days difficult for children who have limited access to cool, shaded places to play.

That is why a local Compassion centre decided to turn one summer day into something special.

Pools were filled. Water games were ready. Popsicles and natural juices were served. Children laughed, splashed, played with bubbles and spent the day together in a safe space designed just for them. πŸ¦πŸ•

β€œThese activities helped me forget the heat,” one child shared.

Behind the fun was something important. The centre uses days like this to help prevent heat-related illnesses, encourage healthy habits and create a safe environment where children can simply be children.

For many of the children, there are few opportunities like this. No large yards. No swimming pools. No easy escape from the heat.

But for one day, laughter echoed through the water, friendships grew and reminders of God's love were woven throughout the activities.

Sometimes Compassion looks like giving a child a place to cool off, play freely and make joyful summer memories.

As many of us enjoy the last stretch of summer, we're grateful for local churches creating moments like these for children around the world. β˜€οΈπŸ’¦πŸ’™

Years ago, Claudie felt the Holy Spirit stirring her heart to find a child sponsorship ministry that closely reflected her faith. πŸ™

After searching online for a "Christian sponsorship organization in Canada", she discovered Compassion.

As she read about Compassion's mission, one phrase stayed with her:
"Releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name."

She remembers being deeply moved by Compassion's commitment to Jesus, the local church and holistic child development.

In that moment, she felt confident that God was leading her to become part of this story. In 2010, Claudie sponsored her first child.

Over the years, she became a volunteer, participated in supporter events and had the opportunity to travel with Compassion to the Dominican Republic.

Seeing the work of local churches firsthand gave her a deeper understanding of what child development looks like in real communities.

But perhaps one of the most meaningful moments came years later during a virtual connection with a young man she sponsors in Ethiopia. πŸ™Œ

During the call, he proudly pulled out a large pile of letters she had sent over the years. Every one of them had been carefully kept.

For Claudie, it was a powerful reminder that sponsorship is about so much more than financial support. It's about relationships, encouragement, prayer and connection.

One young woman who corresponded with her once wrote to her: "Did you know that I cried a lot when you started sending me so many letters?"

Another shared: "I thank you for the letter you sent me. I saw it, and I was so happy."

What encourages Claudie most is knowing that every prayer, every letter and every act of care becomes part of a much larger story.

A story shaped by children, families, local churches, sponsors, volunteers and communities all working together to see children thrive.

Thank you, Claudie, for sharing your Compassion story with us. πŸ’™

Please join us in praying for the people of Indonesia following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake near Flores Island on August 15. πŸ™

Our hearts are with the children, families and communities facing loss, disruption and uncertainty in the aftermath of this disaster. We invite you to pray that those affected would experience God’s protection, provision and sustaining hope as communities begin to recover.

Compassion does not currently partner with local churches on Flores Island, but we do serve children and families on neighbouring islands. Our team in Indonesia is closely monitoring the situation and remains attentive to any potential impact on the children and families we serve.

Please pray for local churches, emergency responders and community leaders as they come alongside those who are hurting. Pray that they would have the wisdom, strength and resources they need to respond with compassion, dignity and love in the days ahead.

Should any sponsored children be affected, their sponsors will receive updates directly by email.

Above all, pray that every child and family impacted would know they are not alone, and that they would experience God’s presence, comfort, strength and peace in the midst of uncertainty.

Many people know Compassion through child sponsorship. But sponsorship is only one part of our holistic approach to helping children thrive. πŸ€”

Because children don't grow in isolation. They grow within families, communities and environments that can either create opportunities or create barriers.

That's where Gifts of Compassion come in. 🎁 Every gift is identified by local church leaders who know their communities best.

Together, sponsorship and Gifts of Compassion work hand in hand to support the whole child and the people around them.

While many children look forward to filling their backpacks with notebooks, pencils and other supplies, for some families around the world, those essentials can be difficult to afford.

In Honduras, children are preparing for the school year and excitement is rising as something as simple as a backpack can make a big difference.

For Yeira, a mother in Honduras, that excitement comes with something else too: hope.

She still remembers helping her five-year-old son Anthony put on his school uniform for the first time.

Like many parents, Yeira wants opportunities for her son that she never had herself. But providing school supplies can be difficult when every resource is already stretched between food, housing and daily necessities.

That is why the arrival of backpacks filled with school supplies means so much.

At Compassion centres across Honduras, children receive new backpacks packed with notebooks, pencils, crayons, rulers and other essentials to start the school year ready to learn. ✏️

For children like Angelli, that simple gift became something much bigger.
When she first received a backpack through the Compassion centre, she felt cared for and encouraged to keep studying.

Today, she is preparing to finish high school and dreams of becoming an architect.

As we prepare for another school year, let's remember children around the world who are eager to learn and grateful for the tools that make education possible.

Because every child deserves the chance to walk into school feeling ready, supported and hopeful about the future. πŸ“šπŸ’™

When Dawn finally met Zuleyma in El Salvador, there were smiles, hugs and a welcome that had been years in the making. πŸ₯Ή

Moments like this are beautiful because they remind us of something larger. Compassion's story has never been about a single gift, a single letter or a single visit.

It is a story of relationships woven together over time. A child connected to a local church, a family supported by a community and a sponsor praying, writing and encouraging from across the world. πŸ’™

Lives touch lives in ways that neither side could fully imagine. What began as sponsorship became friendship. What started with a monthly commitment became a shared story of faith, hope and belonging.

This is what it means to be woven together across countries and languages, cultures and kilometres. πŸͺ‘🧡

Connected by God's love and a shared belief that every child matters. Compassion is more than individual acts of generosity. It is a global movement of children, families, churches, sponsors and supporters woven together in Jesus' name. πŸ™

Thank you for being part of this tapestry. Every prayer, every letter, every gift, every act of compassion becomes another thread in a story far bigger than ourselves.

🧢 We are woven together. And together, we are seeing lives transformed.

πŸ™ Join us in prayer for the people of Colombia following a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake.

As communities begin to assess the impact of this disaster, please join us in lifting up the children, families and communities affected.

Pray for those who have lost homes, those seeking safety and stability and everyone facing uncertainty in the days ahead.

Pray for protection and access to essential resources and for local churches, responders and community leaders as they provide care, support and hope.

May those affected experience God’s presence, peace, comfort and strength during this difficult time.

β€œThe elders told us we couldn’t go to school because there was a giant.”

For many children growing up in this Indigenous community, that was not a fairy tale. It was a belief that shaped generations.

They were told a monster called Oligase would take children who went to school. And even when families wanted something more for their children, there were other barriers. Schools were far away. Many parents could not read or write. Education felt out of reach.

One mother remembers being married at 12 years old. Today, she dreams of something very different for her daughter. She dreams of seeing her finish school and become a teacher. πŸŽ“

That change did not happen overnight.

It began when the local church started listening to the community and responding to real needs. Not only with encouragement, but with practical support.

Parents who never had the opportunity to learn are now attending literacy classes. ✍️ Children are learning to read before they enter school. Families are gaining the tools and confidence they need to build a different future.

One mother shared her own hope simply: β€œMy dream is to learn how to read. I hope that the Lord will increase my reading ability so I can read the Bible.”

When we respond to a specific need, we help remove barriers that hold children back. We create opportunities for them to learn, grow and pursue the futures God has placed before them.

Today, the giant is no longer what people fear. Instead, parents are sending their children to school with hope.

And children are dreaming about becoming teachers, leaders and changemakers in their communities. πŸ’™
