Rosa had been living with her parents when the abuse began.
One family member hurt her repeatedly and treated her children cruelly. Some days they were denied food. Some nights they cried together, wondering if they could ever leave.
Rosa worked when she could, cleaning houses and selling second‑hand clothes. But work meant leaving her children behind. Staying meant danger. Leaving meant nothing to fall back on.
“I don’t know what to do,” Rosa remembers thinking. “We can’t stay here.” 😣 So she walked to the only place she knew would listen. The local Compassion centre.
She was not asking for money. She was not asking for a plan. She was hoping for a hug. Someone to tell her she was not alone. She found that. And more.
Through the Highly Vulnerable Children fund, the centre helped Rosa and her children move into a safe place of their own. They received rent support, basic furniture, food and counselling to help them begin again.
The children were cared for. Rosa was supported. Healing began, slowly and steadily.
Today, Rosa’s life looks different. Her children are thriving at the centre. They have a home where they can rest, play and feel safe.
This is what happens when compassion steps close. Not just to a child, but to a whole family. ✨
