Since launching our My Voice Counts initiative, the London Children's Museum team has gathered hundreds of responses from children across London who want their voices heard.

Now, ahead of London's upcoming election, we're sharing some of their words with you and the people who want to lead our city.

Even though they aren't old enough to vote, children are competent and valuable members of our community. They deserve to have their voices heard by the people who want to make decisions that affect them and the things they care about.

That's why we've invited all of London's mayoral candidates to respond to our city's youngest citizens. We'll be sharing the responses we receive from the mayoral candidates over the coming days leading up to the election on October 26.

October is Latin American Heritage Month, and we’re celebrating through the creativity of young artist Beatriz Valente! 🌟

17 year old Beatriz created "Guardian" to celebrate Latin American Heritage Month for our Our Stories exhibition, drawing on symbols including the jaguar, water, stars and marigolds to explore identity, connection and the beauty of what makes us different.

“I chose to paint a jaguar because they are considered to be spirit guides in some Indigenous belief systems of the South Americas… Overall, this painting is meant to represent the significance of people’s differences, while still reminding us that we are all equals forevermore.”

Our Stories was created with the belief that young artists deserve to have their work taken seriously, and that youth should have the opportunity to tell their own stories in their own voices. Artists ages 12–18 are compensated for their work, with reproductions of their original artwork exhibited at the London Children’s Museum. Through the exhibition, featured artists share their cultures, celebrations, observances and lived experiences from their own perspectives, while we provide the space and platform to help amplify what they choose to share.

Earlier this year, the London Children's Museum team invited youth artists from across Ontario to help us create Our Stories, an ongoing youth art exhibition at the London Children’s Museum.

We’re excited to introduce the first artists joining the 2026/27 Our Stories cohort! Please join us in congratulating:

Throughout the year, their artwork will help us recognize cultural celebrations, heritage months and community observances through the voices and lived experiences of young people themselves both in-person and online.

We’re still currently looking for artists ages 12–18 to join the 2026/27 Our Stories cohort for November 2026, April 2027, August 2027 and September 2027! Selected artists are compensated for their work, and will be featured in-person at the London Children’s Museum and online!

Children shouldn’t have to wait until they’re old enough to vote to feel their voices count.

That’s why the London Children’s Museum team created My Voice Counts! 🌟

As London gets ready to choose it’s next Mayor and City Councillors, we’re creating opportunities for children to join the conversation and be heard. Children in our communities can ask questions, share their ideas, and tell the people who want to lead our city what matters to them.

Then, we’re turning up the volume on their voices! We’re bringing what children share with us directly to London’s mayoral candidates and inviting them to respond, because when we talk about the future of our city, children should be part of the conversation too. 🌱

Find us this weekend at Fanshawe Pioneer Village! 🌱

Visit Fanshawe Pioneer Village this Sunday, October 4th for a special activity presented by London Children's Museum!

Between 12:00pm-2:00pm, dig into the world of plants with LCM's Green Thumbs program! Learn about a plant’s life cycle by germinating seeds and create your own biodegradable plant pot that can be planted right into your garden at home! Get hands-on with nature as you examine the different parts of a plant under a microscope in this fun, exploratory program.

Make it a day and explore the Village's 20+ Heritage Buildings, and learn about the history of Middlesex County from costumed historical interpreters. Don't forget to pack your picnic lunch and take advantage of our picnic benches throughout site! Snacks, drinks and ice cream are available in our Denfield General Store.

During tonight's Workshop with Sustainable Fashion Week Canada, our visitors cut, stitched, experimented and learned new skills while discovering how caring for the things we already own can be good for our creativity, our communities and our planet! 🌎

A limited number of Orange Shirts from Rezonance Printing are available in the Explore Store.

Created in collaboration with Stó:lō artist Phocos (Willis), the design, Protector of Family, reflects family, protection, Elders, children and teachings carried through generations. We encourage you to follow to learn more about the collaboration and the meaning behind the artwork, and to support their work directly.

All proceeds from shirts purchased through the Explore Store will be donated to Atlohsa Family Healing Services, an Indigenous-led organization supporting healing and wellness in our community. We encourage you to follow their pages, learn more about their work and support them directly as well.
