Congratulations to the 2026 recipients of the Keith Johnston Individual of the Year Award. Jordan Lee and Jacques Hebert were recognized for their leadership, generosity and commitment to strengthening their co-ops and the broader Federation network.

This award honours the legacy of Keith Johnston, a founding director who led with purpose and served his community without seeking recognition. Jordan and Jacques carry that legacy forward.

The Water Federation welcomes the Honourable RJ Sigurdson to his role as Minister of Affordability and Utilities. We look forward to working together to strengthen rural water systems across Alberta and to ensure rural and remote communities have access to safe, reliable and affordable water services.

We also extend our sincere thanks to the Honourable Nathan Neudorf for his collaboration and leadership through the Rural Water Program, which continues to advance the modernization and strengthening of rural water systems across the province. We wish him well in his new role as Minister of Assisted Living and Social Services.

Wastewater treatment is a critical part of responsible water stewardship, and it’s also the foundation for future water reuse.

Researchers at the University of Calgary are evaluating a compact treatment system called the FujiClean Jokaso. This technology is widely used in Japan and is now being assessed for Canadian conditions.

This new system could give small and rural communities more options for treating used water safely and sustainably. Learn what this emerging reuse technology could mean for co‑op members.

The Water Federation is proud to join AFREA and FedGas in hosting the 2026 Federation Charity Golf Classic on August 12, 2026 at RedTail Landing Golf Club.

This annual event brings our members, partners, and friends together for a great day on the course, all in support of STARS and HALO Air Ambulance, two life saving services serving rural and remote communities across Alberta.

Last year, the event raised $40,000 for this cause. With your help, we can do even more this year.

Students across Alberta can now apply for paid, four‑month summer internships that support rural water co-ops and help strengthen essential water systems across the province.

The Water Federation is recruiting for roles in Business Administration, Database Development, and Surveying. These positions offer hands-on experience, meaningful work, and a chance to contribute to safe and reliable water services for rural communities.
