🌿🧡 Explore, learn, and connect through Indigenous history and culture!

Join the River Valley Alliance Indigenous Committee for our next All Our Relations event at the Indigenous Peoples Experience at Fort Edmonton Park!

This special morning offers an opportunity to come together and explore the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and stories of First Nations and Métis Peoples.

As we walk through the Indigenous Peoples Experience, participants will have the opportunity to learn, reflect, and deepen their understanding of Indigenous connections to the land, community, and one another.

🍂 A beautiful afternoon of art, learning and connection in the river valley!

On Saturday, October 3, the River Valley Alliance Indigenous Committee welcomed a wonderful turnout at Edmonton’s ᐄᓃᐤ (ÎNÎW) River Lot 11 Indigenous Art Park.

Committee members guided participants through the park’s art installations, sharing their meaning, stories and reflections along the way. The afternoon also included a personal poetry reading and a hands-on art activity, creating meaningful opportunities to learn, reflect and connect.

With perfect fall weather as our backdrop, it was a wonderful afternoon spent together in the river valley. 🍂🧡

A special thank you to Trans Canada Trail (TCT) for their generous funding support, which helped make this event possible. Their support allows the RVA Indigenous Committee to create opportunities that bring people together on the land, share knowledge and perspectives, and strengthen connections with the North Saskatchewan River Valley.

🍂🚲 A beautiful fall ride in the river valley!

What a great day for our RVA Annual Fall Colours Tour! Fourteen enthusiastic riders joined us yesterday for a scenic ride through the North Saskatchewan River Valley, and we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

With colourful fall foliage as our backdrop, the group travelled from Terwillegar Park to Hawrelak Park and back along a portion of Amisk Wacîw Mêskanaw (Beaver Hill Road Trail).

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the ride such a success! We hope you enjoyed experiencing the river valley on two wheels during one of the most beautiful times of the year. 🍁

And a big thank you to our Community Engagement Committee volunteers for helping make events like this possible!

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | September 30

Today, the River Valley Alliance recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

We honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the generations of Indigenous Peoples who continue to be impacted by the residential school system.

As an organization connected to the land and waters of the North Saskatchewan River Valley, we recognize the importance of listening to Indigenous voices, learning from the history of these lands, and continuing to build meaningful and respectful relationships with Indigenous communities.

The name Amisk Wacîw Mêskanaw (Beaver Hill Road Trail), gifted to the River Valley Alliance by Elder Jerry Saddleback, is a reminder that the lands and trails we enjoy today hold stories, relationships, and histories that extend far beyond our organization.

On September 30, we encourage our community to take time to listen, learn, reflect, and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation—not only today, but throughout the year.

🚴 What a great day for our first-ever RVA Cycling Challenge!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday for the inaugural RVA Cycling Challenge! With 15 riders registered and ideal September weather, it was a fantastic day to explore the North Saskatchewan River Valley by bike. ☀️🍂

Our riders set out from Terwillegar Park, travelling through Edmonton’s river valley trail system toward the Strathcona Science Provincial Park area before making the return trip to Terwillegar.

A big thank you to our participants for taking on the challenge, and to our River Valley Alliance volunteers and ride leaders who helped make the day possible. We also appreciate everyone’s flexibility with the route change leading up to the event.

Congratulations to our riders on completing the challenge! 🎉 We hope you enjoyed the trails, the beautiful fall weather, and the opportunity to experience another section of our incredible river valley trail system.

❄️🐦 Discover the birds of the river valley this winter!

Winter is a surprisingly wonderful time for birdwatching! With the leaves gone from the trees, it’s easier to spot the hardy species that make the North Saskatchewan River Valley their home throughout the colder months.

Join the River Valley Alliance and the knowledgeable team from Wildbird General Store for a guided Winter Bird Walk through Whitemud Park, one of Edmonton’s best birdwatching locations. We’ll explore the forested trails, keep an eye and ear out for local birdlife, and discover just how active the river valley can be in December.

🍂 Explore Battery Creek Trail with the River Valley Alliance!

Join us for a beautiful fall morning along the Battery Creek Trail, just outside of Devon, and experience another part of the North Saskatchewan River Valley trail system.

This approximately 4.5 km walk follows a primarily flat route at an easy pace, making it a great opportunity to enjoy the changing season and explore the river valley on foot.

At the end of the trail, those interested will also have the option to take the stairs to the top of the bank to see where this section of trail will eventually connect with Edmonton as the River Valley Alliance trail system continues to develop.
