Democracy depends on informed citizens. And informed citizens depend on libraries.

With our province making their voices heard in the referendum on October 19, it’s a good moment to reflect on the connection between intellectual freedom and civic life.

At EPL, we don’t tell people what to think. We make sure they can. By protecting access to every perspective, every idea, and every story, we help Edmontonians make informed choices at the ballot box and beyond.

Intellectual freedom fuels democracy. Libraries protect both.

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we pause to mourn, reflect, and honour residential school Survivors.

Truth and reconciliation is also a path toward hope. By understanding our shared history and lifting up Indigenous stories, we help shape a community where every child feels valued, safe, and respected.
