Niginan Housing Ventures

Niginan Housing Ventures NiGiNan Housing Ventures is an Indigenous led non-profit supportive housing agency. Ambrose Place will address two housing needs.

NiGiNan Housing Ventures is a non-profit company and registered charity that was formed to address the particular needs and requirements of aboriginal people living in Edmonton. Niginan’s first project, Ambrose Place was inspired by Ambrose Daniels who died from pneumonia while living on the streets of Edmonton. Using a housing first approach, it will provide housing and support services to homele

ss individuals and couples of aboriginal descent who have not been successfully housed in existing facilities. It will also provide safe affordable housing within a culturally sensitive environment primarily for individuals and couples of aboriginal ancestry who do not require supports. Niginan’s goals are to:

-House and keep people housed and to enable them to create a home for themselves;

-Improve the quality of life of the residents;

-Build community and to involve the residents in the development and management of their community

-Provide residents with a sense of control over their own lives

Last night, NiGiNan Housing Ventures had the privilege of welcoming members of the Spruce Avenue community to learn more about our work, our Indigenous-led recovery model, and the future of Ambrose Place 2.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to attend, ask thoughtful questions, share perspectives, and engage in meaningful conversation. Strong communities are built through relationships, transparency, and partnership, and we are grateful for the opportunity to connect with our neighbours.

Presentations were provided by CEO Keri Cardinal, Director of Housing and Programs Christine Davies, David Gibbs from Chandos Construction, and Tai Ziola and Lauren Staples from DIALOG, who shared information about Ambrose Place 2, our newest supportive housing development that is preparing to break ground this spring.

We would also like to thank MLA David Shepherd, MLA Janis Irwin, Councillor Anne Stevenson, and representatives from the City of Edmonton for joining us, participating in the discussion, and showing their support for Indigenous-led housing solutions.

A special thank you as well to NHV Board Members Lillian Sissons and Marisa Redmond for their attendance and ongoing leadership and support.

At NiGiNan Housing Ventures, we believe housing is more than a building—it is a foundation for healing, belonging, and community. We look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships with Spruce Avenue as Ambrose Place 2 moves from vision to reality.
