1 in 3 cancers can be prevented

In Australia approximately 44,000 cancer cases each year are preventable.1

We all know about the dangers of smoking and sun exposure.

Evidence now shows that nearly as many cancer cases are caused by a combination of the following lifestyle choices as smoking:

Drinking too much alcohol
Being overweight
A lack of physical activity
Eating too much red and processed meat
Not eating enough fruit and vegetables

Bowel cancer can develop without symptoms or family history, so it’s important for Australians aged 45 to 74 to participate in bowel screening, even if you feel healthy.

A reminder to stay in tune with your body
July marks Sarcoma Awareness Month—a chance to shine a light on this lesser-known group of cancers, support those living with and beyond sarcoma, and encourage everyone to regularly check and become familiar with their skin and body.
Sarcomas often develop without obvious symptoms and may have no known cause, but they can be just as serious as other forms of cancer.
If you notice any new or unusual lumps, make an appointment with your GP to have them assessed. As with many cancers, early detection can make a significant difference to treatment outcomes.
