Adelaide Festival you are broken. You’ve attempted to shut down public conversation by canceling Dr. Randa Abdel-Fattah’s appearance.

You’ve done the opposite.

Australian Poetry Slam and Word Travels stand with the AF boycott.

Censorship of a respected, lauded writer is not the solution. Open discourse is.

BE BRAVER.

Reinstate Dr. Abdel-Fattah’s appearance now.

How will you spend on Giving Tuesday (The antidote to Black Friday)?

Young people typically go unheard. Kids have no power. They can’t vote or legislate. They’re not making the movies, tv, shows or books. Not writing the “news”. Yet they can pick up a mic if we create space, inspiration and support for the ideas that come out.

Where can you see people who aren’t being represented? How can you amplify their voices? How are you handing the mic to the person next to you, listening and creating pathways for new diverse cultural leaders?

Can you do it through Word Travels?

Kyiv Social x WordTravels

As part of the Third I Festival, Plate It Forward and WordTravels came together in October to host ‘Story Dinner – Your Moment of Change’ at Kyiv Social — an evening of shared meals and powerful refugee stories that was also one of the first events of the 2026 Story Week program.

Curated by Hani Abdile, and featuring Maryam Zahid and Rataj Abdullah, the night was one of intimate storytelling, discovery, and connection - with food as the portal through which guests were transported into the extraordinary journeys of our speakers.
