Taldumande supports vulnerable and homeless children and young people aged 12-21 years, and their families.

Taldumande Youth Services supports vulnerable and homeless children and young people aged 12 to 21 years, and their families. Based in Northern Sydney and the Northern Beaches, we support young people from all across Sydney. On any given night Taldumande has 65 children and young people in residence. We operate three 24/7 and two semi-independent accommodation programs and also offer community hou

sing programs that provide a streamlined pathway, from homelessness and family breakdown, to independence and stability. Taldumande also provides residential support to young people who are under the supervision of Juvenile Justice in our Young Offenders Intervention Program and we also focus on preserving and restoring families with young people 12 to 15 in our Family Preservation and Restoration Program.

A lot can be happening behind “I’m okay.”

For young people experiencing homelessness, the hardest part is often not knowing where they can safely land next, or who they can trust enough to ask for help.

That is why early support matters.

Taldumande works with young people whose housing situation may be changing night to night, whether they are staying with friends, moving between temporary places, or living somewhere that no longer feels safe or stable.

For 50 years, Taldumande has opened its doors to young people and families who need safety, stability, and support.

In a personal note from our Chair, Virginia Howard, she reminds us why this work matters, and why there are still too many young people we are not yet able to reach.

Last financial year, Taldumande supported 963 young people. But due to lack of funding, 427 children, young people, and families had to be turned away.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating Sienna, a 16-year-old student who turned compassion into action. 🏃‍♀️💜

Earlier this month, Sienna ran her first half marathon to raise funds for young people experiencing homelessness across Greater Sydney. Before race day, she had never run more than 15km. She ran 21km alongside her dad and has raised $6,763 so far.

She even wrote to the Prime Minister to share what she was doing, and he wrote back.

When asked what she hopes others take from her story, Sienna said: “You never know what someone’s going through.”

That’s exactly why support matters.

As Taldumande marks 50 years of showing up for vulnerable young people and families, Sienna’s story is a reminder that everyone has a part to play in helping young people find safety, stability, and hope.
