At EarlyEd we didn't know anything about the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library until in 2019 an opportunity arose to work with United Way Australia to partner in a grant with Parramatta City Council and their Huddle project.

We discovered what an amazing opportunity the Imagination Library provided communities, families and children. It creates an equal opportunity for children to access books, stories and early literacy experiences. It provides families with easy access to book reading with their child.

The Imagination Library is also about partnerships. Community groups, businesses work together with United Way Australia to get books out into local communities and measuring the improved outcomes for children.

Thank you Dolly Parton for your vision.

If you want to know more about how to get books into your community contact us or United Way Australia.

This year’s theme, Communication creates possibility, reflects what speech pathologists see every day in practice.

When communication and swallowing needs are supported, people have more opportunities to connect, learn, make choices, participate, learn and thrive.

At EarlyEd our vision is that children have an equal opportunity to receive the right speech pathology support as early in their life as they need it and where they need it.

Speech pathologists help make possible: stronger participation, greater inclusion and improved wellbeing across health, education, disability, aged care and community settings.

Come and play and listen to our interactive Ready to Learn Online Story Time every Thursday at 10.00am. It’s a great opportunity to support your child’s language and literacy development and connect with other children.
Great whatever the whether.

What will the story be this week?
My Possum Plays the Drums by Catherine Meatheringham.

Children’s Book Week 2026 will be held from Saturday 22nd to Friday 28th August.
The theme for this year is "Symphony of Stories". Come along to Storytime and celebrate this annual event with us as we read My Possum Plays the Drums.

There’s a scratch at your window or a rustle up the tree, there may be a tap, a thump, a hiss or a screech. Who could it be? My Possum Plays the Drums is a musical adventure as we listen to the possum orchestra playing through the night.

How can reading My Possum Plays the Drums help support your child’s learning?
* Encourages children to join in by clapping, tapping and making sounds.
* Helps build vocabulary with fun sound words such as bang, hiss and scratch.
* Through rhyme and repetitive words, children hear the same words and phrases many times making the words easier to understand and use.

Language is not the only thing children learn from this everyday activity. The more you get them involved the more they learn about their world and themselves.

Teeth cleaning is something you will need to share in, for many years to make sure they are cleaned well.

If you find it challenging get advice from therapists, early childhood teachers, maternal health nurses and dentists.

This year's theme is "Seeds of Science. Nurturing Knowledge for All."
"Research shows that children naturally engage with scientific concepts and
processes in their play as they explore their world.." Dr Kate Highfield, Early Childhood Australia,

You could try a nature scavenger hunt to find items in your local park.
