Stillbirth Foundation Australia

Stillbirth Foundation Australia There are 6 stillbirths a day in Australia. Stillbirth Foundation Australia is raising money for research.

The Stillbirth Foundation Australia works to reduce the incidence of stillbirth in Australia by:

* Funding and encouraging research into stillbirth; and

* Increasing public awareness about stillbirth. Stillbirth is when a baby dies whilst inside its mother and can occur at anytime from 20 weeks until immediately before birth. Six babies are delivered stillborn every day in Australia, and for e

very baby that dies of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), 30 are stillborn. Despite medical and scientific advances, the rate of stillborn babies is not declining nor well understood - a situation that urgently needs to be adressed. The Stillbirth Foundation Australia provides an opportunity for the community to support research and education into this devastating condition, while offering stillparents, their families and friends a way to connect with each other.

Thank you to the incredible .engadine community who came together to honour Georgia’s 5th heavenly birthday.

A 50km team challenge was held on 7 March 2026, raising more than $7,000 for the Stillbirth Foundation Australia.

Every kilometre, every effort, and every dollar raised was a beautiful tribute to Georgia and to all babies gone too soon.

We are so grateful to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this meaningful day. Your kindness and generosity help support families and continue the important work of stillbirth research and awareness.

Georgia will always be remembered. 🤍

The Stillbirth Foundation Australia and the of Research Excellence in Stillbirth are excited to announce new funding dedicated to advancing stillbirth prevention.

Dr Hossain and his research team at The University of Newcastle, Australia have been awarded a Research Grant for their study, ‘Non-invasive placental liquid biopsy – Detecting oxidative damage markers in maternal plasma exosomes to predict stillbirth risk’.

This research aims to provide a method for early detection of pregnancies at risk for stillbirth, offering new opportunities for prevention.

A/Prof Sean Seeho, Chair of the Stillbirth Foundation Australia, acknowledged the vital role of supporters in making this research possible.

“This work is only achievable because of the incredible dedication of our supporters, who give their time to raise funds for critical research, and the thousands of donors who contribute each year. On behalf of the Foundation, I extend my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to you all.”

"Ten years ago, on the 22nd of March 2016, Ned and Jack entered the world in silence. Their lives were measured not in years, or months, or even days. Yet the moment they arrived changed the shape of everything that came after.

In the beginning, grief is loud. It sits heavily in every room. It lives in conversations that never quite finish and in questions that never quite find answers.

But over time it becomes quieter. Not smaller, just quieter. It settles somewhere deeper inside you, where it becomes part of who you are rather than something separate from you.

Parenthood began for us in a way we didn’t expect.

Ten years on, we still sometimes find ourselves wondering who they might have been. These questions have no answers, but they still visit from time to time.

There is a strange kind of love in losing children you never truly had the chance to know. You learn that love does not depend on time, or memories, or shared experiences. Love can exist simply because someone existed.

Over time, Ned and Jack have become not just a memory of what happened, but a quiet presence in our family story. They are part of the reason we hold tighter, listen longer, and breathe in the ordinary.

We no longer think of Ned and Jack only in terms of loss. We think of them as part of the beginning of our family’s story. Their lives, however brief, mattered. They shaped the parents we have become and the way we see the world.

There is a phrase we say often:
I have oxygen in my lungs. I need to make the most of it. Many don’t get that privilege.

Ned and Jack remind us of that truth every day.

Some lives are long and loud. Others are brief and quiet. But the measure of a life is not always in its length.

Ned and Jack were here, however briefly, and because of that they belong to our story forever."

Lovingly shared by Hayley and Liam, parents to Ned and Jack, on their 10th heavenly birthday.

“Mummy looked up at the clock on the wall to her left, it was 11.52am and she heard the Doctor say, “I can’t find a heartbeat, but I need to confirm with another doctor.” Mummy began to panic, cry and yell for your Daddy, who was helped up onto the bed so she wasn’t alone. Keeping her eyes closed, another Doctor entered the room and confirmed your parents’ worst fears, there was no heartbeat and we knew you were gone.

Beverly explained we would have to have a third ultrasound but she would give us a moment to process.

Through the tears, Mummy and Daddy lay on the bed, in a tiny room under a harsh sunlit lamp, witnessing their whole lives being turned upside down.

“Can we name him Louis? I want to name him Louis,” Mummy said ...”

Heartfelt words shared by Maddy, Louis’ mother. Thank you, Maddy, for sharing Louis’ story. He will always hold a special place in our hearts and thoughts.
