Whilst advocating for oral healthcare, we also support dentists in their dentistry career. ADA NSW is the professional body for dentists located in New South Wales, Australia. Every year, over 6 million dental appointments take place across NSW and the ACT. These appointments are carried out by over 5,000 dentists, over 70% of which are members of our association. Congratulations to member Dr Mark Braithwaite who has been recognised in a formal motion in NSW Parliament.

The motion acknowledges the Branch Service Medallion Award that Dr Braithwaite was awarded at the ADA NSW President's Reception.

It also recognises the contribution Dr Braithwaite has made to dentistry, his local community, and to the ADA NSW.

The motion was read out in the NSW Parliament chamber and registered in Hansard, the official written record of NSW Parliament.

Water fluoridation is an important safeguard against tooth decay.
ADA NSW Vice-President and Dubbo dentist Dr Sophie Halpin spoke to 7NEWS last week about the oral-health benefits of restoring fluoridation to Dubbo's drinking water supply, which has been without active fluoridation since 2019.

“We find that in communities that don't have active water fluoridation, there are higher rates of tooth decay, even when you consider that there are fluoride products available through other vendors, like toothpaste, for example.”

Dr Halpin welcomed the anticipated return of fluoridation, highlighting the benefits it will bring to the Dubbo community.

ADA NSW continues to advocate for safe, effective and reliable water fluoridation across regional NSW to help prevent tooth decay and improve oral-health outcomes.

Every community deserves access to this proven preventive health measure, regardless of postcode.
