Tasmania's first case of H5 Bird Flu has been confirmed in the carcass of a Brown Skua.
Early detection and strong biosecurity are our best defences and will help protect Tasmania's unique wildlife and poultry industries.
If you see sick or dead birds or other wildlife:
AVOID contact.
RECORD what you see - the type of animal, the number of animals, the location and take photos or video.
REPORT by calling the Emergency Animal Disease hotline as soon as possible on 1800 675 888 or through the online reporting form.

Every report to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline is reviewed by animal health, biosecurity and wildlife experts. While not every dead bird needs testing, every report helps build Tasmania’s disease surveillance picture and identify unusual patterns.
Birds can die from many causes, so reports are prioritised to focus resources on cases most likely to help detect bird flu early. Even when a site visit or testing is not needed, your report still makes a difference.
Not all animals will be collected. Test results are generally not provided.
