Our guest speaker this week was Kerrie Arnott, the founder of the charity 'Short of a Sheet'. This is a volunteer run, non-religious, non-political charity providing free resources to locals who are unhoused, at risk, or recovering from homelessness. The charity connects with community and housing services, filling in gaps in services currently offered, and listening to feedback from those with lived experience. Kerrie is to be congratulated for establishing and running such an amazing charity to support those in very real need.

A fun day today supporting COTA's Intergenerational Expo at PW1. Perfect weather helped make it a successful day fundraising for local Youth Literacy projects. Thank you COTA for the invite, and thank you to everyone who came by to support us.Always happy to serve and support our local community.

On 12 April 1955, the polio vaccine developed by Dr. Jonas Salk and his colleagues was officially declared "safe, effective, and potent." Rotary stepped in and aimed for the seemingly impossible: eradicating polio for good. And we are nearly there!
There are 3 things we know for sure:
1. No child should be paralyzed or killed by a vaccine-preventable disease.
2. We must in its final hiding places to prevent global spread of the virus, safeguard lives, and save billions of dollars.
2. We've reduced polio cases by 99.9% since 1988 and have the tools and know how to end it for good.

The Rotary Club of Sandy Bay is holding it's 3rd Community Fete and Trash'n'Treasure in partnership with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania on Sunday 22nd March. The beneficiaries of the funds raised will be the Wooden Boat Guild of Tasmania and the Battery Point Community Boat Shed. This is a great way to make a few dollars for yourself by booking your own stall to sell no longer needed items, or you can donate items to our Club stall with proceeds going to the beneficiaries to support our community. John Stubley is the Tasmanian Development Manager, Homeless for The Salvation Army. John was our guest speaker on 2 March and he spoke on programs and housing options for the homeless in Tasmania. This was a topic of immense interest for anyone who is concerned about the need for housing solutions for those who need good housing. If you are interested and want to learn more about our community, come along to one of our great meetings, have a brilliant meal at Wrest Point, listen to one of our fabulous guest speakers and also chat with friendly like-minded people.

Ray Mostogl is the CEO of the Tasmanian Minerals, Manufacturing and Energy Council and on 16 February as guest speaker he spoke to our club about Tasmania's energy requirements into the future. It was a talk not to be missed. Our club has the best guest speakers, who like Ray, keep our club and our community informed on fascinating and relevant topics of interest. If you are interested in coming along to a meeting, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Reverend Professor Michael Tate AO was guest speaker at our annual World Peace and Understanding (WPU) Dinner on 23rd February. WPU celebrates understanding, goodwill, and peace for global harmony. Micheal spoke on "A real politic of peace." He drew from his experience in Canberra as a senator and among his other portfolios, as Minister for Justice. After leaving politics he was appointed the Australian ambassador to the Netherlands and the Holy See, before retiring to enter the priesthood. It was a fabulously riveting talk.

Our Club is holding its annual World Peace and Understanding Dinner on 23rd February to celebrate that Rotary has promoted understanding, goodwill, and peace as essential for global harmony since 23rd February 1905 and has actively worked towards it since.
