Proudly sponsored by Blumers. COMET is a student-run social justice society from the University of Tasmania. We believe in supporting and empowering Tasmanian youth through legal education. Young people are at high risk of becoming offenders or victims, particularly those experiencing homelessness. This is partly because young people find it difficult to understand the law, and therefore do not un
derstand their legal rights and responsibilities. That’s why we, as law students, aim to help young people in understanding key concepts of the law relating to their rights and obligations in civic society. COMET aims to ensure this knowledge is then used to make informed choices about their lives in the future. COMET does this by providing engaging, accessible and informative workshops to schools and various youth shelters around Hobart. Participants are encouraged to discuss the legal consequences of their actions as well as their rights and responsibilities under the Tasmanian criminal law.
