Our hearts are heavy following the horrific attack at Bondi Beach on Sunday. On behalf of the Board and staff at Greater Melbourne Foundation, we extend our deepest condolences to the people who have lost loved ones, to those who have been injured, and to everyone affected by this senseless act of violence and hatred.

This tragedy occurred on the first day of Hanukkah – a time that celebrates hope, resilience and the miracle of light. While that light may feel dimmed in the wake of such devastation, it cannot and will not be extinguished when we stand together.

We grieve with and for our Jewish friends, who are such an integral part of our community, both here in Greater Melbourne and across Australia. We know many are feeling deeply traumatised and unsettled right now. The Greater Melbourne Foundation stands in solidarity with the Jewish Community and with the people of Sydney, and we unequivocally condemn antisemitism, hatred and violence in all its forms.

Now is the time for us to come together, to support one another, and reaffirm our shared commitment to respect, inclusion and peace.

Please consider making a donation to Sydney Community Foundation's Bondi Beach Tragedy Appeal in this time: https://bondi-appeal-2025.raiselysite.com/
