🕊️ Tribute to the Late Dr. Francisco Guterres "Lu-Olo" 🕊️
On behalf of the Rai Matak Project, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family of Dr. Francisco Guterres "Lu-Olo", former President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste (2017–2022) and former President of the National Parliament (2002–2007).
We also express our sincere sympathies to the Government and the people of Timor-Leste during this time of national mourning. Dr. Lu-Olo dedicated many years of his life to serving the nation. His leadership, commitment, and contributions to Timor-Leste will be remembered with respect and gratitude.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life and public service. May they find strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time.

These two remarkable women embrace a tree planted through the WithOneSeed project some sixteen years ago.

When that tree was planted, they were children. The forest that surrounded them had largely disappeared, but not the vision of their community. Their elders carried a belief that restoration was not simply about planting trees. It was about renewing relationships - between people and land, between past and future, between responsibility and hope.

They grew up alongside this tree. They learned from those who came before them. They witnessed thousands of small acts of care repeated over years and decades.

Together, their community imagined a forest where there was once absence, and then patiently brought that vision into being.

This is why WithOneSeed and Rai Matak cannot be measured by the lifespan of a donor project or funding cycle. Their true timeline is generational. The initiatives asks us to think beyond ourselves, to invest in outcomes we may never fully see, and to trust that those who follow will continue the journey.

A tree is often described as a symbol of hope. But perhaps it is something deeper. A tree is a conversation between generations. It is a promise made by one generation and fulfilled by the next.

Standing beside this tree today, these women embody that promise. And somehow, that says everything.

University of Queensland visits Baguia!

Last week, we're hosting a 1.5-day visit from the University of Queensland! 🇦🇺

We're diving into discussions on energy and hearing from our amazing farmers about their experiences with the WithOneSeed Program.

A highlight of the visit is our team showcasing our innovative TreeO2 app, used for tree counting 🌱 and monitoring.

Some of our visitors are also getting a taste of our local culture with a trek to mountain Rufaguia ⛰️ and visits to communities, learning about traditional practices like badu kuana and soru tais.

Last month, our Carbon Farming Manager Emilio Guterres had the amazing opportunity to attend a seminar at the University of Melbourne ( University), Australia!

He shared valuable insights on the importance of local knowledge from our communities and encouraged everyone to value the wisdom of our elders. He also highlighted the significance of our culture and its connection to our land.

A highlight of the seminar was the presentation of Baguia's seasonal calendar by Elisa Joana Gusmão. We're proud to see our local knowledge being shared on a global platform!

In this seminar participate from Friends of Aileu, Xpand Foundation, University of Melbourne, and another participants as well.

This is a beautiful sharing and learning from Baguia and Australia 🍃.
