Emerge is a specialist family violence service supporting women and children across Victoria.

We provide safe refuge, outreach, early intervention and therapeutic support, helping families rebuild their lives after violence with dignity and hope. We assist women and children in crisis to rebuild their lives and break the cycle of violence.

A little everyday luxury, with choice at the centre. 💙

Through our ongoing partnership with Regenerate, Emerge recently received a generous collection of beauty products donated by Mecca.

Our team created a beautiful little market at our refuge with the donated products. From skincare and makeup to a few little luxuries, our clients had the opportunity to take their time, explore what was available and choose something that appealed to them.

Regenerate has been a valued partner of Emerge for many years, providing practical, material support to women and children at important points in their journey of recovery from family violence. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued generosity, and for the beautiful products donated by Mecca that made this particular market possible.

When we asked our team to reflect on the moments that show the impact of Emerge’s services, one staff member shared the experience of supporting a mother and child at refuge.

When the child first arrived, they were heightened and guarded, with little eye contact. Through trauma-informed support, over time there were signs that the child was beginning to feel safer - becoming calmer, returning to play and reconnecting with their mother.

As our team member reflected:

“We began to see a calmer child, with play and joy returning and close bonds with their mother rebuilding.”

Family violence can disrupt the relationship between a child and their safe caregiver. Creating the conditions for safety, connection and trust to begin rebuilding is an important part of supporting recovery for both mother and child.

Sometimes the impact is found in moments like these - a child beginning to play again, joy returning, and a relationship beginning to heal.

Every child deserves to grow up safe.

The first priority in Safe and Equal's 2026 Victorian State Election Platform focuses on children and young people.

Children experience family violence in their own right, with needs that are distinct from those of their safe caregiver. Yet access to specialist support designed specifically around those needs remains inconsistent.

At Emerge, centring the rights and needs of children is fundamental to our purpose and the future direction of our services.

Our work recognises children and young people as victim-survivors in their own right. We are committed to embedding early intervention across our service model, strengthening developmentally appropriate responses for children of all ages, and continuing to build our team's child-centred capability.

That commitment is already reflected in our dedicated Children's Case Managers and programs such as Back on Track, which works with children impacted by family violence and their safe caregivers to support recovery, strengthen relationships and help break cycles of violence.

Safe and Equal is calling for dedicated investment in specialist services designed around the needs of children and young people, alongside investment to strengthen workforce capability and build greater understanding of what works.

For Emerge, putting children at the centre isn't simply about recognising their experience of family violence. It's about building a service system capable of responding to their individual needs and supporting their long-term recovery.

Victoria has made significant progress in its response to family and gender-based violence. But the work is not finished.

Ahead of the 2026 Victorian State Election, Safe and Equal - Victoria’s peak body for specialist family and gender-based violence services - has released its election platform, outlining four key priorities for continued action and investment.

• Children and young people
• Safe housing and long-term recovery
• Justice and early intervention
• Sustainable investment in the specialist family and gender-based violence sector

As a specialist family violence service, Emerge is proud to add our voice to the broader sector conversation and help amplify the priorities identified by our peak body.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing each of these priorities and exploring how they connect with the experiences of women and children impacted by family violence and the work of specialist services like Emerge.

Because maintaining progress means continuing to strengthen the systems that support safety, recovery and long-term change.

The difference between care and control matters.

Coercive control can be difficult to recognise, particularly when controlling behaviours are presented as love, concern or protection.

Respect Victoria’s new See the Signs campaign is helping Victorians recognise the patterns of behaviour that can restrict a person’s independence, autonomy and freedom.

At Emerge, we know that family violence is not always physical. Understanding the many ways violence and control can occur is an important part of recognising harm and supporting people to access help.

We encourage you to explore the campaign, learn more about the signs of coercive control and share these resources with others.

Recognising the signs can be an important first step towards safer relationships and informed support.

Every conversation matters. But meaningful change requires action.

This National Child Protection Week, we’re reflecting on what it means to turn awareness into practical support for children and families.

At Emerge, we recognise children as victim-survivors of family violence in their own right. Their experiences, needs and voices are central to the way we work.

Through our specialist services and innovative Back on Track program, we support children to recover from the impacts of family violence, strengthen relationships and reconnect with everyday life.

For some children, that can mean re-engaging with school. For others, it may mean developing healthier ways of managing emotions, rebuilding confidence or feeling more connected to their safe caregiver.

These are the kinds of changes that early intervention can help make possible - supporting children’s recovery while working to disrupt cycles of violence across generations.

Every child deserves to be heard, supported and given the opportunity to thrive.

An incredible show of community support. 💙

On Saturday night, Emerge was honoured to attend the Commonwealth Bank Staff Social & Charity Club (CBASSCC) 2026 Diamond Gala as one of four charity partners – and we were incredibly grateful to receive $37,500 in support of our work with women and children impacted by family violence.

This generous contribution will help us continue delivering vital services and programs, including Back on Track, our evidence-based early intervention program for children aged 5–12 impacted by family violence.

Through early intervention, Back on Track helps children process their experiences, rebuild relationships and reconnect – including re-engaging with school – while also working alongside their safe caregiver to support recovery and help disrupt cycles of violence.

We were also proud to stand alongside our fellow charity partners Out for Australia, Very Special Kids and My Room Children’s Cancer Charity each doing important work within our community.

Our heartfelt thanks to the CBASSCC and everyone who contributed to such a wonderful evening and made this generous donation possible.
