Built between Thailand and Burma during WWII, the railway was constructed using forced labour by Allied prisoners of war and Asian civilians under brutal Japanese control.

FEPOWs worked in extreme heat, with little food, almost no medicine, and constant exhaustion.

Thousands died from disease, starvation, abuse, and overwork.

Today, it remains one of the most haunting symbols of POW suffering.
