🚧 ROADWORKS ALERT – SOUTH GIPPSLAND HIGHWAY / CLYDE-FIVE WAYS ROAD 🚧

Residents and motorists are advised that major upgrade works have commenced at the South Gippsland Highway and Clyde-Five Ways Road intersection in Devon Meadows.

The Victorian Government is upgrading the intersections at:
📍 South Gippsland Highway & Clyde-Five Ways Road
📍 South Gippsland Highway & Fisheries Road

The project will include:
✅ New traffic lights at both intersections
✅ Additional turning lanes to improve traffic flow
✅ Upgraded pedestrian crossings and footpaths
✅ Road widening to reduce congestion and improve safety

Works are expected to continue through to early 2027.

During construction, motorists should expect temporary speed reductions, changed traffic conditions, occasional lane closures and some overnight works.

(Changed traffic conditions include no right turn from South Gippsland Highway to Clyde/Five-Ways Road as at 11/6/26).

These upgrades aim to improve safety for all road users and reduce bottlenecks on this increasingly busy section of road. (Transport Victoria)

Please allow extra travel time if you regularly use South Gippsland Highway and keep an eye out for traffic management changes in the area.

The latest Casey suburb review has dropped from Bec’s Unhinged Reviews - it’s Doveton’s turn this time.

Thoughts?

*Please understand - this is satire and not intended to be taken personally.

Bec’s Unhinged Review:
Doveton

Doveton is the sort of place where every second person says they’re from Endeavour Hills when they’re not, and every third person says they’re from Dandenong which is mind blowing 🤯

This suburb was built on three things hot chips, footy, and blokes standing in driveways with their hands on their hips looking at absolutely nothing.
Doveton is proof that crime doesn’t pay, because if it did, half the suburb would’ve retired by now.

In Doveton, nobody says “Do you remember that bloke?”
They say, “Do you remember that punch-on?”
Which one?
“The one outside the milk bar.”
You’re gonna need to be more specific, mate.
The local punch-on schedule is more reliable than public transport.

You can drive through Doveton and see a couch on a nature strip that’s somehow become a local landmark.
“Turn left at the floral couch, mate.”

You’re either going to the bakery, on your way to Yozzy’s, or you’re arguing with your mate about whether you should go to the bakery first and then Yozzy’s. There is no fourth option.

I swear every kid that grew up in Doveton has heard their mum yell their full government name from 200 metres away.
Not because they were in trouble.
Just because dinner was ready.

Doveton people don’t need fancy cafés charging $28 for smashed avocado. They’ve got bakeries where the ladies behind the counter have known your order since 2009 and kebab shops keeping the local economy alive one garlic sauce explosion at a time.

It’s the only place where a bloke in thongs can give you life advice, sell you a whipper snipper and ask for a smoke in the same conversation.

If you hear “Oi c*nt!” in Doveton, don’t turn around. There’s a 90% chance it wasn’t directed at you.

Stay Unhinged, Legends ✌🏼

📣 A Positive Step Towards Transparency on Clyde Rail

The Casey Residents & Ratepayers Association welcomes the Victorian Parliament’s support for a motion requiring the release of documents relating to the proposed Clyde Rail Extension, including any business cases and planning assessments.

The motion, moved by David Limbrick MP - Libertarian passed unopposed and requires the documents to be produced within eight weeks.

For many years, our association and the broader community have been seeking greater transparency around the planning and future of the Clyde Rail Link.

The project continues to attract strong community support and remains one of the most needed transport infrastructure initiatives for Melbourne’s south-east.

Access to these documents will help residents better understand the analysis, costs and considerations behind this important project.

👏 We sincerely thank David Limbrick MP for his continued engagement with our community and his ongoing advocacy for greater transparency regarding Clyde Rail.

David has consistently listened to community concerns, asked the difficult questions and pursued answers on behalf of residents across Melbourne’s south-east.

The community has waited long enough for answers.

Residents deserve to see the information that has informed government decision-making and to have an informed discussion about the future of rail services to Clyde.

We look forward to reviewing the documents when they are released and continuing to advocate for the transport infrastructure our growing region needs.

🏡🌳 VCAT APPROVES FORMER CRANBOURNE GOLF COURSE DEVELOPMENT WITH ENVIRONMENTAL AND OPEN SPACE CONDITIONS 🌿🐦

VCAT has approved, by consent, the planning permit for the first stage of the former Cranbourne Golf Course redevelopment at 750 Glasscocks Road, Cranbourne North.

The VCAT proceeding was brought by local resident and objector Garry Page following Casey City Council’s decision to grant a permit for the development.

The development proponents were Brown Property Group and GPH No. 7 Pty Ltd as Trustee for GPH No. 7 Trust. Following a compulsory conference, all parties reached agreement and VCAT endorsed a settlement, meaning the scheduled five-day hearing in August will no longer proceed.

While the overall subdivision and housing development has been approved, the final permit includes a range of environmental, landscape and community benefit requirements, including:

🌳 A minimum 30% tree canopy target across streets and public open space, and 20% canopy cover across the broader site.

🌿 Retention of significant vegetation, including Tree 23, together with stronger tree protection, landscaping and biodiversity management requirements.

🐦 Fauna and aquatic fauna management plans to minimise impacts on wildlife during development.

🚶 Additional public open space, shared paths, landscaping and greening outcomes.

📋 Ongoing reporting and legal mechanisms to help ensure canopy and landscaping commitments are delivered.

🪧 Reductions to some of the proposed display village advertising signage.

The decision highlights the important role community participation can play in the planning process.

While the development has not been stopped, issues raised through community objections and the VCAT process have contributed to greater scrutiny of matters such as tree canopy, biodiversity, landscaping, open space and environmental management.

The Casey Residents and Ratepayers Association has consistently advocated for evidence-based planning, protection of green space, stronger tree canopy outcomes, biodiversity conservation and the delivery of infrastructure and community benefits alongside growth.

The former Cranbourne Golf Course site has a long and significant history within the local community.

As recently reported by the Cranbourne Star News, the VCAT challenge has now concluded, allowing the redevelopment to proceed subject to the agreed permit conditions.

As our community continues to grow, ensuring that development is accompanied by meaningful open space, biodiversity protection, tree canopy and supporting infrastructure remains an important conversation for the future of Casey.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) has approved the Cranbourne Golf Course housing redevelopment. Hampton Park resident Garry Page, who appealed against Casey Council’s February approval of the redevelopment, settled with the Council on a compulsory conference on Tuesday 3 June...

Thank you Ann-Marie Hermans MP for your continued engagement and advocacy for Clyde rail link and the Cranbourne train line extension.

With a continually growing population that is already struggling with daily congestion and commutes of 30 min to get to Cranbourne train station in the morning - the time to commit to Clyde rail is now.

We call for both major parties to give bipartisan support ahead of the November state election for Clyde rail to give the Cranbourne East and Clyde community certainty that critically needed public transport infrastructure will be delivered.

🚨 CRRA Lodges Formal Objection to Proposed 1,500-Student School Expansion in Western Port Green Wedge 🚨

The Casey Residents and Ratepayers Association (CRRA) has lodged a formal objection to Planning Application PA26-04388, which seeks to expand Australian Christian College Casey at 271-275 Pearcedale Road, Cranbourne South from its currently approved cap of 125 students to a staged P-12 campus accommodating up to 1,500 students.

While CRRA acknowledges the need for additional educational facilities across Casey, we believe the key issue is not whether there is demand for schools, but whether a development of this scale is appropriate within the Western Port Green Wedge.

Our objection raises significant concerns regarding:

🌿 Conflict with the strategic planning protections introduced under Amendment C284case for the Western Port Green Wedge

🚗 Traffic impacts and infrastructure capacity, with the applicant’s own reports identifying future road network constraints

🌊 Flooding and bushfire risks that remain unresolved

🐾 Potential impacts on threatened species including the Southern Brown Bandicoot, Glossy Grass Skink and Dwarf Galaxias

🏗️ The proposed 12-fold increase in student numbers and endorsement of a long-term masterplan that would effectively pre-determine future development stages

📋 A number of procedural and information gaps that CRRA believes require further investigation before any decision is made

Importantly, this application is being assessed by the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) on behalf of the Minister for Planning, not the City of Casey.

Community members wishing to view the application or make a submission can access the planning documents here:

🎥 CRRA President Anthony Tassone interviewed by ABC News on protecting our Western Port Green Wedge

Today, CRRA President Anthony Tassone was interviewed by ABC News regarding the increasing frequency of planning applications seeking approval for infrastructure and facilities that are urban in nature within our precious Western Port Green Wedge.

The latest example is the proposal for a place of worship at 600 Cranbourne-Frankston Road, Cranbourne South, which is currently before Council for further assessment after receiving more than 170 objections from local residents and community groups.

CRRA’s position is clear: this is not about prejudice against any faith or religious group. We respect the diversity of our community and the right of all faith groups to establish places of worship in appropriate locations.

Our concern is about planning process and land-use policy. The Green Wedge has a specific purpose—to protect agricultural land, environmental values, open space and non-urban landscapes. As more applications are lodged for developments that are typically associated with urban areas, it is important that planning decisions remain consistent with the intent of Green Wedge protections.

Facilities that serve growing urban populations should be strategically planned and located within the Urban Growth Boundary, where appropriate zoning, infrastructure and services exist to support them.

CRRA will continue to advocate for sound planning outcomes, transparency in decision-making, and the long-term protection of the Western Port Green Wedge for future generations.

📺 The interview was conducted today and is expected to air on ABC News within the coming week. We will keep our members and followers updated when broadcast details become available.
