Free Palestine Melbourne Social justice NGO organising for a Free Palestine. The December meeting is usually replaced with a social event such as a BBQ.

Free Palestine Melbourne is a community organisation dedicated to raising public awareness of the Palestinians’ hundred year struggle for freedom. We seek to build Australian-Palestinian solidarity by engaging in political activism in Naarm (Melbourne) and joining international campaigns that oppose Israel’s ongoing colonisation of Palestine. Free Palestine Melbourne meets at 1pm on the second Saturday of each month with the exception of December and January. We meet at the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre in Carlton. We welcome the participation of anyone who supports a just peace in Palestine based on universal human rights and international law. We also acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, live and organise - the Wurundjeri, Boon Wurrung and Wathaurong people and their Elders past, present and emerging, of the Kulin nation. Like in Palestine, sovereignty was never ceded and the struggle against settler-colonialism continues.

We run this page to share up-to-date topical information on issues that are affecting Palestinians and their struggle for justice and freedom. We are here as an unapologetically pro-Palestinian page. We welcome genuine discussion and opinions to help understanding of the situation as it is for Palestinians. In these discussions, we don’t delete or ban any opinions which disagree with other opinions. We do, however, delete comments that contain historical fallacies and political propaganda by antidemocratic organisations and individuals, irrespective of political leaning. This means that we do not tolerate any lies or propaganda that forward the agenda of extremist groups, hate speech, racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, the denial of proven crimes against humanity, the denial of the Nakba, racialized claims as to indigeneity or comments that depend on the erasure of the humanity of Palestinians. Rules for commenting:
** Remain civil and polite. We will delete any comments with personal insults, or attacks.
** Avoid partisan politics as far as you can. We reserve the right to cut off vitriolic debates.
** Hate speech in any direction will lead to a ban.
** Racism, Xenophobia, Antisemitism or any slamming of Palestinians will lead to an immediate ban.
** Partisan revisionism, especially Nakba or Holocaust denial will lead to an immediate ban.

In 2018, the UK media helped derail the Labour Party by amplifying claims by the Israel Lobby that Jeremy Corbyn was endangering British Jews.

Now the Sydney Morning Herald is doing the same to Greens Leader David Shoebridge by amplifying the lies of Zionist Labor MP Josh Burns.

Please sign this petition calling upon the Herald to:

1. Amend the headline so it does not give undue prominence to an allegation of prejudice that is not established by Shoebridge’s quoted remarks.

2. Publish an editor’s note giving appropriate prominence to the fact that Shoebridge did not describe Jewish Australians as “good” or “bad”, critical context currently contained only in paragraph 12.

3. Add an editorial disclosure that Paul Sakkal previously participated in a week-long trip to Israel in 2022 hosted by the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, a pro-Israel advocacy organisation.

Every Australian who has ever been told to go back where they came from should recognise what is happening here. A government has picked one community and decided its ordinary existence is a public order question. If it can be done to Palestinians with a scarf, it can be done to anyone with anything, and the people who built this machinery will not dismantle it when the political weather changes.

NSW Premier Chris Minns is easily offended and wants to prosecute one cultural group over another because of what they wear.
