Hamish is just 14 years old, and - inspired by his grandad, who has been playing the trumpet for decades - he now honours those who’ve served by playing The Last Post in Melbourne's CBD to commemorate Remembrance Day.

➡️ “In the minute's silence, being able to look and see everyone, and listen to the whole city dead quiet... It's really amazing."

For more than 100 years, Australians have honoured our fallen and supported our living through the Poppy Appeal. Every badge and virtual poppy you purchase provides life-changing support to veterans and their families - from crisis housing to mental health care, to advocacy and community programs.

Today is Remembrance Day. And across Australia, RSL volunteers are raising money to support our veteran community through the Poppy Appeal.

➡️ "The poppy, to me, means service and sacrifice," explains Major General Jason Blain.

Wherever you are on 11 November, remember to pause and reflect at 11:00am.

Remembrance Day is about honouring not only those who served in war, but also those who served in peacekeeping operations, and those who have served and continue to serve at home.

Set a reminder in your calendar or phone, switch your phone to ‘do not disturb’, and take a moment’s silence in memory of the fallen. It’s a simple action that means so much.

Fighting in the First World War ended on 11 November 1918, but the need to remember those who gave their lives will never end. More than 60,000 Australians were killed in the First World War, and more than 43,000 have died in service to Australia since.

Beyond the fallen are hundreds of thousands wounded - both mentally and physically - and millions more affected by the loss of a loved one.

Today at 11:00am, buglers will sound The Last Post at intersections throughout the country. We ask all Australians to pause for a moment’s silence to say thank you.

Lest We Forget.

For Mitch and Marcus, two modern veterans who have transitioned out of the defence force, the poppy is a reminder of their mates - and a crucial call to action.

🌺 When Mitch and Marcus see a poppy, they think about all of Australia's servicepeople, past and present. They served for us; and many of them need our help now.

The poppy isn’t just a flower: it’s an icon. And it means so many different things to different people.

Louise Sirianni understands this. To her, the poppy links together her family’s past, her actions in the present, and the future for her sons.

Without a proper pension or medical support, the weight on Stuart’s shoulders grew heavier by the day.

The transition from military service to normal life seemed impossible to navigate. That’s when the RSL stepped in, offering financial assistance and guidance for both Stuart and his family.

🌺 Funds from the Poppy Appeal help to support veterans like Stuart to get back on their feet.

Every year, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people in Australia and many other countries pause for a minute of silent reflection in memory of those who died while in military service.

We urge our community to remember to remember with a minute’s silence at 11am on Remembrance Day next Tuesday, 11 November 2025.
