When you're living with a chronic condition like scleroderma, accessing specialist care can come with questions about fees, out-of-pocket expenses and treatment options.

The 'Talking with your specialist doctor about costs' consumer guide, developed by the Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges (CPMC) in collaboration with the Australian Patient Advocacy Alliance (APAA), offers practical advice to help you feel more confident discussing these costs.

From requesting a written estimate to exploring payment options, knowing which questions to ask can help you make informed decisions about your care.

The right treatment can be life-changing. Speak to your dermatologist about the care and treatment options available to you.

For people living with scleroderma, specialist care is especially important. The condition can affect the skin and internal organs, so early diagnosis, regular monitoring and appropriate treatment can help manage symptoms and address complications.

Timely access to the right specialist shouldn’t depend on where you live. Dermatologists, governments and health services all have a role to play in expanding access to high-quality care across Australia.

Your dermatologist can help assess skin changes, provide expert advice and work with other specialists to support your individual care needs.

Everyone living with scleroderma deserves access to the specialist care they need, wherever they live, and the opportunity to feel comfortable in their own skin.

DID YOU KNOW that many people living with scleroderma experience an invisible disability?

Scleroderma can affect the body in many ways, from the skin and joints to internal organs. Yet, many of these challenges aren’t visible to others.

This Invisible Disabilities Week, let’s remember that not all disabilities can be seen. By showing empathy, understanding and compassion, we can help create a world where everyone feels heard, understood and supported.

Let’s stand together to raise awareness of invisible disabilities and support everyone living with scleroderma!
