Financial hardship is rarely just one bill, one debt or one missed payment.

In recent weeks, Bravery Trust has seen daily enquiries increase by up to 85%. Among people seeking support, 1 in 3 are experiencing housing stress and 2 in 3 are behind on utility bills.

That pressure is immediate. But the response needs to do more than meet the immediate need.

Bravery Trust provides practical, veteran-specific support through financial assistance, financial counselling and financial education.

Since introducing integrated financial counselling, Bravery Trust has seen a 70% reduction in repeat assistance.

That matters because the right support can help people stabilise, regain control and reduce the likelihood of returning to the same point of crisis.

This end of financial year, your donation helps make this work possible.

On Tuesday morning, we hosted Bravery Trust’s 2025 Impact Report Event, bringing together the broader ESO community, Defence personnel, Defence industry, partners and supporters.

It was an important opportunity to share what we are seeing across the veteran community, and the impact of early, practical support.

The need continues to grow. Since inception, Bravery Trust has supported 6,650 veterans and family members. In 2025 alone, we supported 1,060 people, an increase of 77% in just two years.

We also highlighted the increasing pressure many veterans and families are facing, with cost-of-living pressures contributing to housing stress, unpaid utility bills and more people reaching out for help.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to those who continue to support our work.

As demand rises, Bravery Trust remains committed to ensuring veterans and their families receive the practical support they need when they need it most.

The data tells a clear story.

More veterans and families are turning to Bravery Trust for support as financial pressure builds.

Rent. Bills. Debt. Essential costs. The pressure of trying to keep a household stable.

But the data also shows what early, practical support can change.

Financial assistance, financial counselling and education can help people stabilise their situation, regain control and move forward with confidence.

Tomorrow, we will share Bravery Trust’s 2025 Impact Report, and a clearer picture of the need we are seeing, the outcomes being achieved, and why end of financial year support matters.

Because practical support works.

Financial hardship is often invisible. It can sit behind a front door, a uniform, a family routine, or a person who appears to be coping.

But the pressure is real.

For veterans and families, hardship can build through transition, injury, illness, unemployment, family responsibilities, or the rising cost of essentials.

Bravery Trust provides practical, veteran-specific support before that pressure becomes crisis.

This EOFY, your donation helps us respond when a veteran or family reaches out.

Last week, the Bravery Trust team came together on the Gold Coast to pause, plan and strengthen the way we support veterans and families facing financial hardship.

As a remote national team, time together matters. It gives us the chance to share what we are seeing, sharpen our practice and make sure our support remains practical, coordinated and grounded in the realities of veterans and families who come to us for help.

A sincere thank you to Craig Kingston from Legacy Gold Coast and June Cremin from the Veterans' Support Centre for joining us and contributing to important conversations about collaboration across the sector.

We are proud of the specialist work this team delivers every day through financial assistance, financial counselling and education.

In 2025, Bravery Trust supported 1,060 veterans and family members facing financial hardship.

That is a 77% increase over two years.

Behind that increase are veterans and families under real financial pressure, and a growing need for practical, veteran-specific support.

This EOFY, your donation will help fund financial assistance, financial counselling and education that helps veterans stabilise, regain control and move forward.

After nearly six years on the Bravery Trust Board, Simon Matthews has concluded his tenure as a Director and Chair of our Fundraising Committee. On behalf of the Board, I want to say a very genuine thank you.

Simon joined us in June 2020 and has given an enormous amount of himself to this organisation, including walking the Kokoda Trail in support of Bravery Trust, on one of the most significant tracks in Australian military history.

His leadership of the Fundraising Committee and the relationships he's built, including with Richmond Football Club, have helped lay the foundations for long-term support for veterans and families experiencing financial hardship.

Simon, your contribution has made a real difference. We look forward to staying connected and wish you all the best.

Last week, our CEO Garth Callender visited the Leidos Australia base in Cairns – and what a welcome from the team!

The visit was a valuable opportunity to share the impact of Bravery Trust’s work supporting veterans and families facing financial hardship, while also seeing Leidos’ impressive operation up close.

Partnerships like this help strengthen the practical support available to veterans and families when they need it most.

Thank you to Dylan and the Cairns crew for the hospitality and engagement!

CEO Garth Callender, Head of Operations Kay Dilger and members of the Bravery Trust team were on the ground in Cairns last week for the Financial Counselling Australia Conference, alongside leaders from across the sector.

It was a valuable opportunity to share Bravery Trust’s work supporting veterans and families facing financial hardship, while learning from and connecting with others committed to practical, person-centred support.

Real impact happens when we work together.
