Voices of Hope - ‘Shosholoza’, meaning ‘Go forward’, is a traditional call and response work song in the Ndebele language. It was sung by miners travelling from their native Zimbabwe to the gold and diamond mines in South Africa. The song mimics the sound of the steam trains that carried them to work. Its themes of persistence during hardship have made it South Africa’s unofficial second national anthem.
