PRIVATISING SERVICES FOR OUR MOST VULNERABLE WEST AUSTRALIANS. SHAME!

On top of the 1500 jobs already being cut from public services, the Cook Labor Government is now threatening to close our Supported Community Living homes, leaving 400 workers, including 300 Social Trainers, out of a job.

These are more than just residential care facilities for people with disabilities; these are homes where residents who need specialised care can live a full and dignified life with the support they need.

We implore Minister Hannah Beazley to shelve this proposal immediately.

We’re asking all West Australians to oppose these cuts by signing the petition and getting along to a rally at Solidarity Park on 16 July.

WHY EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT PAYDAY SUPER

From 1 July 2026 super will be paid at the same time as wages for all workers, through the introduction of Payday Super. This is good news for Australian workers, helping retirement savings grow sooner, while reducing the risk of unpaid or delayed super payments.

WHY DO WORKERS ALWAY PAY THE PRICE FOR THE ECONOMIC PROBLEMS OTHER PEOPLE CREATED!!!

Last week, the Federal Industrial Relations Commission announced award wage increase of 4.75% that will allow our lowest paid workers to at least keep pace with the rising cost of living. They also announced an additional increase for the lowest paid workers, those on minimum wage, to give them a total of 6%.

That 6% allows the lowest of low paid workers employed under the Federal IR system to keep their heads above the rising tide of the cost of basic necessities.

Yesterday the WA Industrial Relations Commission announced the outcome of the State Wage Case that sets minimum and award wages under the State industrial system for the coming year.

The increase announced for WA award wages matched those for the Federal system at 4.75%, but no additional support was offered to the lowest of low paid West Australians.

Once again, the lowest paid West Australian are being left behind.

Western Australia’s low paid workers did not ask for a war in the middle east. They did not create the housing affordability crisis. They did not create the system that means they can’t afford to keep a roof over their heads in the communities they live and work in. They didn’t trigger the price gouging and profiteering that is driving inflation in groceries and essentials.

These working families have no notches left on their belts. They have nothing left to cut out or cut down on. They urgently needed a wage outcome to keep their heads above water, not sometime in the future, but right now.

Today’s decision by the WAIRC shows a lack of real understanding of the desperate plight of our state’s lowest paid workers.

It puts the onus on state minimum wage earners to absorb the cost of our current economic problems while those who caused them laugh all the way to the bank.

It’s outrageous, unfair and unjust. And it has to stop.

YOU CAN’T CUT PUBLIC SERVICE JOBS WITHOUT CUTTING SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC!!!

The State Treasurer is pretending that she can cut 1500 jobs from public services without impacting the service they provide.

We call bu****it.

There is no way you can cut 1500 staff from the health, education, community support, and public administration services that the State Government are supposed to provide to the people of Western Australia without reducing the actual service that is provided to our communities.

Our tax dollars pay for those services. And the State Government is boasting about a budget surplus. So why are they cutting these services?

This is Government Services shrinkflation. They are straight up syphoning off funds that are supposed to be used to deliver the services our communities need and putting it towards pet projects instead.

Not good enough.

UNION WIN!!!

Thanks to union members, Australia's minimum and award wage workers are set to get a 4.75% pay rise from 1 July!

The wage claim affects nearly 3 million workers whose pay is set by awards, but also benefits all working Australians by setting a minimum wage floor across the entire wages system 👏

This lifts the lowest rate of pay for ongoing work from $24.95 per hour to $26.44, or a $56 a week increase for a full-time worker.
