The AWU is the AUKUS union and we're fighting for our members at ASC. ⛴

AUKUS is underway and the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) is in the process of hiring and training RAD Technicians (Nuclear) and maintenance workers to ensure the safe operation and treatment of the nuclear systems and waste at Henderson.

These members are engaged in vital training and work to keep our communities safe and boats moving. Our AWU AUKUS team is working alongside them collaboratively with ASC to ensure our members' skills are adequately recognised and renumerated.

The AUKUS project brings many benefits to our community and ensuring our southern suburbs benefit from well-paid, highly skilled union jobs is our priority.

Happy Birthday Mr President! 🥳 🎉

AWU WA Branch President, Andy Hacking, celebrated his birthday over the weekend. He tells us he just turned 30, and we're inclined to believe him!

Jokes aside, there is no one in recent memory who has given more blood, sweat and tears fighting for AWU members and their communities we are all better for knowing and working alongside him.

Footy fans back their team in the good times and the bad, just like their union backs them at work.

Fremantle was not able to get it done on Saturday but put in a performance that all Freo fans can be proud of.

Congratulations to Wayne C from Alcoa on having the closest guess of 95 to 96 (Lions). Wayne wins 4 tickets to a Fremantle game of his choice in the 2027 H&A season. Congrats to runners-up Jamie S (Alcoa) and Louis Simpson (DBCA) who will receive a mega member merch pack!

It’s been a long time between drinks for loyal Fremantle fans, but they’ve made it to a Grand Final once again.

The AWU WA Branch is locked in behind Fremantle, none more so than our WA Branch Secretary, Brad Gandy and Assistant Branch Secretary, Craig Beveridge. 💪

AWU National Secretary, Paul Farrow nails it once again.

Workers aren't the ones deciding to increase prices to maintain extreme profit margins, but right now, they're the ones paying the price.

The RBA's next interest rate decision is coming on Tuesday, and another rate increase will make it even harder for millions of families across Australia. It's time to stop punishing workers, and take action on corporate profit gouging!

Last week, all proposed EA-covered workers at BHP MAC and South flank got at least a 4% base rate increase. Whilst some got more, no one got less.

It's significant that BHP decided to pay its workers at MAC and South Flank the first of 4 guaranteed 4% annual pay increases, even though the agreement hasn’t yet been approved by the FWC. The agreement is still before the FWC, and we are expecting a decision from the FWC soon.

In the meantime, BHP, the Combined Port Ops Unions (AWU, ETU and AMWU) and other bargaining reps are back in at the bargaining table today to try and get some movement on the proposed Port Operations Agreement. We will update MACSF and Ports members over the next week!

AWU organisers were down the hole at Northern Star’s Mt Charlotte underground operation this week, talking with members about the issues that matter to them.

One of the biggest concerns is stagnant wages that are failing to keep pace with workers doing comparable work above ground at the Super Pit.

Members have also raised concerns about employees being overlooked for job progression, with workers taking on more responsibility and developing their skills without seeing a fair or transparent pathway forward.

This is exactly why workers need a strong, union-negotiated enterprise agreement.

An EBA gives workers the opportunity to lock in decent wage increases that keep pace with industry standards while also securing clear and enforceable conditions around classifications, progression, allowances and workplace fairness.

Without these protections, wages and progression can be left entirely to management discretion. With a strong AWU membership, workers can negotiate collectively and make sure everyone gets a fair go.

If you work at Mt Charlotte and want to see better wages, fair progression and stronger conditions, now is the time to get involved.

Strong membership. Strong bargaining power. Better outcomes.

It’s World Su***de Prevention Day – a day where we recommit ourselves to reducing the rates of su***de in our communities and workplaces because one death by su***de is one too many.

The AWU WA Branch not only talks the talk but walks the walk, and today we can announce that we have partnered with the State Government to commence WA Workers’ Connect.

WA Workers’ Connect will provide non-clinical early support, workplace outreach and referral assistance for workers across industries including agriculture, fisheries, forestry, civil construction, road maintenance, resources, mining, oil and gas and many more.

The WA Workers’ Connect Mental Health Officer and support services will be made available to workers across AWU covered industries.

The AWU is proud to partner with the State Government to deliver this program, and we look forward to continue working collaboratively to prevent su***de wherever we can.
