Yesterday, workers, representatives from the combined Port Ops unions, and BHP met with the Fair Work Commission.

This was the same day that BHP announced a full-year profit of over $13 billion, up 9%. But their offer fails to address the basic concerns of our members – the very workers who helped deliver that massive profit.

We're meeting again next week with BHP, and in the meantime, we'll be consulting with members on our options – including counter-offers. It's time for a fair offer from BHP!

Cleanaway Strike 💪

This morning, AWU members were at Wells Park not for work, but to send a message.

Cleanaway delegate Wayne Stanley said it straight. The ask isn't unreasonable a fair 4%, 4%, 4% deal over three years. It's not a big ask, and it's one Cleanaway workers have more than earned. But the company still isn't meeting that requirement. The 4%, 4%, 4% deal our members are asking for would help to keep up with the rising cost of living pressures.

Thank you to every member who turned up this morning. We stand with you, and we won't back down until Cleanaway comes to the table with a fair deal.

Good luck to all the Parks and Wildlife Service, Western Australia (DBCA) and Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA firefighters who travelled to the US earlier this week to help them battle their wildfires on the border of the US and Canada. 🫡

Gold Fields Australia Member Update ‼️

Late last month, the AWU WA team was on site at Agnew, Granny Smith, St Ives and Gruyere mine sites after members overwhelmingly rejected Gold Fields Australia's recent EBA offer.

The AWU has left no stone unturned in our fight for members in the Goldfields. We've been on site, in the paper (Kal Miner) and our AWU Members of Parliament, Ali Kent MLA - Member for Kalgoorlie and Lauren Cayoun MLC met with Gold Fields Australia management to ask when bargaining would recommence.

Our members voted NO, it's now time for Gold Fields Australia to listen and return to the bargaining table. The AWU will be formally requesting a return to bargaining later this week.

We will be back on site later this month to update members further.

Congratulations and welcome to Melissa Donnelly, who earlier this week was appointed Secretary-elect of the ACTU.

Melissa is National Secretary of the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) and has represented public sector workers nationally since the WorkChoices years under the Howard Government.

For WA ACTU leadership matters, national campaigns can have a real impact on what happens in our workplaces. From the fight for Same job, same pay, to stopping wage theft and pushing for stronger protections against silica dust, these campaigns have helped shape the wages, rights and safety standards that WA workers rely on every day.

The AWU WA Branch looks forward to working with Melissa and the ACTU to keep pushing those campaigns forward for our members.

Over the weekend, hundreds of members from the combined BHP Port Ops unions - WMWA partner union the AWU, The AMWU Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union WA and the ETU WA Branch downed tools in our fight for a fair EA!

Our members know that our action had a huge impact at Port Hedland - and so does BHP.

We hope this action does exactly what it's intended to do, and sharpen everyone’s mind on finding a solution that works for everyone, fast.

This morning the AWU through our DBCA Organiser, Shane Malcolm bid a safe journey to our AWU Fire Crews 👨🏻‍🚒 travelling to the US to help battle wildfires across the Pacific Northwest.

Approximately 187 firefighters from Australia with around 40 from across Western Australia from both DBCA and DFES will be landing in Idaho this week to receive a briefing and work assignments.

This collaboration is coordinated by the Australasian Fire Authorities Council (AFAC) to support our North American brothers and sisters in their time of need. 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇲🇽

Aussies always show up for our mates and just as they supported us through the Black Saturday fires, we will return the favour. 💪
