Mercy Works

Mercy Works Mercy Works supports long term development projects, working with some of the most challenged people in Australia and the South-East Asia Pacific region.

“The poor need our help today, not next week”
Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy

Through our work with the most challenged people in Australia and the South-East Asia Pacific region, everyone at Mercy Works is continually reminded of these words from Catherine McAuley. We support long term development projects that engage in partnerships with communities. The needs of people who a

re denied access to basic resources like education, health care and social welfare are often urgent. However, for sustainable change, it’s important that they make informed decisions about their future and play a driving role in determining the support they receive. For that reason, we only respond to requests for help – we never impose what help we might think people need. That is the only way to foster meaningful and enduring change in people lives. Across our region of the world, there are so many people living in desperate circumstances. We believe it is our duty to do something to help today and every day – to make, as Catherine McAuley also said, “some lasting efforts for the relief of the poor and suffering.”

Thank you, Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, for your warm welcome and ongoing support of Mercy Works.

It was wonderful to spend time with Year 5 students and see the Mercy spirit in action. We look forward to hearing more about Mercy Markets in Term 2! 🤍

Just before the end of last term, Year 5 welcomed Danielle from Mercy Works, who shared with them who Mercy Works are and how they help people in need.

As a school founded by the Sisters of Mercy, we are proud to support Mercy Works each year as we put our faith into action. Stay tuned for more news in Term 2 as we prepare for our annual Mercy Market!

This Easter, we invite you to pause and reflect on the power of gratitude, joy and hope.

In this short message, Sr Sally Bradley RSM shares how small acts of compassion and connection can bring light into the lives of others — and reminds us that hope is something we live, each day.

At Mercy Works, we are privileged to walk alongside communities in Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines and Timor-Leste — supporting education, health and opportunity.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

A beautiful celebration at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Parramatta on Saturday marking 100 years since St Patrick's Parramatta Primary School moved to its Ross Street site.

Families, staff and friends gathered to honour the legacy of Catholic education and the lasting contribution of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, whose commitment to education has shaped generations of students.

Mercy Works Executive Director Sally Bradley rsm joined with the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, Bishop Vincent Long, Donna Davis MP, Joan Coyle — the school’s first lay principal — and Lucie Farrugia, Principal of Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta, for this significant milestone.

International Women’s Day

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience and leadership of women everywhere.

Mercy Works was honoured to partner with Afghan Women on the Move on this powerful project sharing the voices and stories of Afghan women building new lives in Australia.

Listening to these women was a privilege. Their stories remind us of the courage it takes to begin again, and the importance of creating spaces where women’s voices can be heard.

Projects like this reflect Mercy Works’ commitment to supporting women from refugee backgrounds to share their voices and strengthen community connections.

Thank you to the remarkable women who shared their journeys with honesty and strength. When women’s voices are heard, communities grow stronger.

Today, as we celebrate the beauty and diversity of our nation, we also acknowledge the reality that for many First Nations peoples, this day carries deep pain and reminds us of the Gap that still exists.

The Australian Government’s Closing the Gap initiative is an important step forward, but real change requires all of us. At Mercy Works, we believe that reconciliation is not just a policy, but a shared responsibility.

Through our Indigenous projects, and with the incredible support of our partners and donors, we are committed to creating opportunities. We work to improve health outcomes, advance education, support employment and justice, and empower communities. Together, we can help ensure every Australian has the chance to thrive.

Let’s make this Australia Day a moment of hope, empathy, and action. Because closing the Gap isn’t just a government goal, it’s a national mission we all share.
Join us in walking this journey together.

What a wonderfully collaborative process the community of St Monica's North Parramatta primary school embarked on to create a more meaningful school prayer. St Monica's is a school founded in the Mercy tradition and it was wonderful to have their presence at our recent 25th anniversary celebration.

St Monica's Primary School, North Parramatta, have refreshed their school prayer, undertaking a synodal process of listening, writing and reflection to engage as much of the school community as possible.
