I am proud to share that last night, at a ceremony held at the University of Canberra, I had the honour of receiving the Canberra Multicultural Individual Award from the Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

Receiving this recognition is a great honour for me. I see it not only as a personal achievement, but also as recognition of the efforts of everyone who works to support people in need, refugees, and migrant families as they settle and begin a better life in Canberra and other cities across Australia.

I sincerely thank my family, friends, generous individuals, MARSS Australia, and the Afghan Peace Foundation for their support and encouragement. Without your support and trust, continuing this journey would have been much more difficult.

I dedicate this recognition to all those who continue to raise their voices for the people of Afghanistan, particularly the girls and women of my country who continue to face severe restrictions and oppression under the Taliban regime.

This award gives me even greater motivation to continue serving the community and to work for dignity, respect, solidarity, and equal opportunities for everyone.

The Office of the Afghan Peace Foundation in Canberra is pleased to announce that the 2026 Graduation Ceremony for graduates of Afghan background will be held on:

The event will be hosted by the Office of Mr Peter Cain MLA and supported by MARSS Australia and the Afghan Peace Foundation.

The ceremony will honour students of Afghan background who are graduating this year from universities, colleges, high schools and CIT in Canberra.

Last night, the Multicultural Broadcasters’ Night, organised by the management of multicultural radio station CMS FM 91.1, was held at the Ainslie Social Club in Canberra.

The event was attended by several Members of Legislative Assembly, including the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, as well as representatives and members of various communities from diverse cultural backgrounds. A number of members of our Afghan community were also present at the invitation of the radio station’s management.

During the gathering, multicultural broadcasters and program contributors were recognised and acknowledged for their valuable work. Among those recognised was Ms Taranom Jafary, broadcaster of the Voice of Afghanistan program.

At the event, Dr Nadir Saikal, State Director of the Afghan Peace Foundation , Canberra, thanked the distinguished guests and expressed his appreciation to the management and team of CMS FM 91.1 for organising the event and for their continued support of multicultural programs representing diverse communities.

The evening also featured a range of cultural and artistic performances by different communities. Representing Afghan culture, Mr Abdul Rahim Noorzai performed a traditional Afghan dance, which was warmly received by the guests, with several attendees joining him on the dance floor.

At the conclusion of the event, awards and certificates of recognition were announced and presented. Ms Tamana Faizi was also among those who received an award.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for people from different cultural backgrounds to come together, connect with one another, and recognise the important contributions of multicultural broadcasters and media workers in Canberra.

Report on the Meeting Between the Afghan Peace Foundation and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

A meeting was held this afternoon between the leadership of the Afghan Peace Foundation, represented by Ms Tahera Nassrat, Mr Nadir Saikal, and Mr Haroon Afzali, and relevant officers and officials from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan and ways in which Australia can continue to support the people of Afghanistan.

During the meeting, it was stated that the Australian Government provides approximately $50 million in humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan each year, delivered through various international organisations and agencies. Around 10 per cent of this assistance is allocated to supporting Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

The importance of supporting Afghan women and girls was also emphasised, particularly through opportunities for employment, education, higher education, and scholarships.

It was also noted that the Australian Government does not recognise the Taliban regime and provides assistance to the people of Afghanistan through international organisations and humanitarian agencies.

The meeting was a valuable opportunity for the Afghan Peace Foundation to directly present the realities on the ground and the essential needs of the people of Afghanistan, particularly women and girls—to relevant Australian Government officials.

We are pleased and proud to announce that the Canberra Office of the Afghan Peace Foundation has signed a partnership agreement with Navitas Skilled Futures.

Under this agreement, the Afghan Peace Foundation Canberra Office will work closely with Navitas Skilled Futures to provide better opportunities for members of our community in Canberra, particularly in English language learning, employment, and guidance and support for their future pathways.

We hope this partnership will create valuable opportunities for the progress, empowerment and development of our community members.

Meeting with Senator Fatima Payman

This afternoon, I had the honour of meeting and speaking with the Honourable Senator Fatima Payman, a member of the Australian Senate.

During our meeting, we had a constructive and meaningful discussion about the situation of Afghan citizens in Australia, resettlement processes, immigration matters, and some of the challenges faced by Afghan migrants.

The meeting also provided a wonderful opportunity for me to sincerely congratulate Senator Fatima Payman and her family on the birth of their beautiful new baby. I conveyed my warmest wishes to them on this joyful occasion.

The Afghan Peace Foundation Office in Canberra extends its best wishes to Senator Fatima Payman and her family, wishing them good health, happiness, and continued success.

Senator Fatima Payman, as a courageous and hardworking woman, represents the important presence and participation of women of Afghan background in Australian society and institutions. Her presence in the Australian Parliament is a source of significance and pride for many Afghans living in Australia.

Congratulations from the Afghan Peace Foundation – Canberra Office

The Afghan Peace Foundation – Canberra Office warmly congratulates Ms Fay Alizai on the official opening of Alternative Mediations in Canberra.

The office was officially opened this evening in the presence of a number of businesspeople, legal professionals, community elders, and social leaders from Canberra.

Alternative Mediations provides professional services in areas including family dispute resolution, property mediation, parenting coordination, and supervised contact and visitation between parents and children.

The Afghan Peace Foundation – Canberra Office considers the establishment of this centre a valuable step towards providing specialised services and supporting the peaceful resolution of disputes within the community.

We wish Ms Fay Alizai every success, achievement, and continued professional growth in this important work and in her service to the community.

The Australian Government does not recognise the Taliban regime as the legitimate representative of the people of Afghanistan and has made it clear that it will not accept representatives or diplomats appointed by the Taliban.

We hope that an inclusive, legitimate government, founded on the will of the Afghan people, will be established as soon as possible—a government that protects the rights and freedoms of all citizens, particularly women and girls, and creates the conditions for stability, development, and constructive engagement and support from the international community.

The people of Afghanistan deserve peace, freedom, justice, inclusive governance, and a brighter future.

🎉 50th Anniversary of the Secondary Introductory English Centre at Dickson College 🎉

The Secondary Introductory English Centre at Dickson College celebrated its 50th anniversary last night. The Centre was established in 1976 through the initiative and dedicated efforts of Mrs Edna Hopkins.

Since its establishment, thousands of students have studied at the Centre and improved their English language skills. Among them, hundreds of students from Afghanistan have also benefited from the Centre’s educational opportunities and support.

The 50th anniversary celebration was held last night with the presence of leaders from various organisations and communities, as well as current and former students and teachers of the Centre.

The Afghan Peace Foundation – Canberra Office has also played an important role over the years in supporting and working with the Centre and our students. We sincerely appreciate the dedication, cooperation and efforts of the Centre’s management, teachers and everyone involved in supporting students and creating educational opportunities.

We wish all young students, particularly young people from Afghanistan, every success. We hope that through learning English and gaining the knowledge and skills they need, they can build a bright and successful future for themselves and their families in Australia.
