The Afghan Peace Foundation is proud to be part of the Canterbury Bankstown Multicultural Interagency (CBMIA) and many other leading organizations to support this year's Refugee Week Celebration.

Refugee Week is an opportunity to honour the resilience, courage, and contributions of people from refugee backgrounds who have rebuilt their lives and enriched our communities across Australia.

Join us as we celebrate the voices, stories, and strength of refugee communities through inspiring stories, cultural performances, art activities, and community connection.

This free community event is delivered through a partnership of local organisations and community leaders committed to supporting multicultural communities and promoting inclusion.

As an organisation led by people with lived refugee experience, the Afghan Peace Foundation is honoured to stand alongside our partners in recognising the journeys, achievements, and contributions of refugees in Australia.

The Afghan Peace Foundation, in partnership with the (RCAN), is hosting a Refugee Policy Forum on 30 June 2026 at 6:00 PM to examine recent Federal Budget measures and their implications for Australia's migration system.

This forum will bring together community , , , service providers, and to explore current migration challenges, policy reforms, and their impact on migrant and refugee communities.
The discussion will cover and , migration policy and budget priorities, workforce participation, skills utilisation, labour market integration, and the experiences of skilled migrants in Australia.
Featured speakers include Paul Power, Chief Executive Officer of the Refugee Council of Australia, John Gelagin, Chief Executive Officer of CareerSeekers; and an Alison Battisson experienced immigration lawyer who will provide insights into current migration law and policy developments.

Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in facilitated group discussions and share their perspectives, experiences, and recommendations.

Community input gathered during the forum will contribute to policy recommendations and submissions, ensuring that attendees have a meaningful opportunity to help shape the discussion and inform future policy advocacy.

As part of Reconciliation Week, we are pleased to report that the donated food supplies and warm blankets received from the Multicultural Association Canberra were successfully distributed this afternoon to 11 families in need.

These donations were provided to newly arrived migrant families and other vulnerable members of our community to help meet some of their essential needs and support their settlement journey.

We sincerely express our gratitude and appreciation to the Multicultural Association Canberra for its valuable support, generosity, and cooperation. Such contributions play an important role in strengthening community connections and assisting those facing hardship.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Multicultural Association of Canberra for its generous donation of food supplies and warm blankets.

These valuable contributions will be distributed to the most vulnerable members of our community, particularly newly arrived migrants and refugee families who are facing economic hardship and other challenges.

To ensure that this support reaches those who need it most, we respectfully request that these donated items be reserved for and distributed among the most disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals and families within our community.

Today, I participated in the “Biggest Morning Tea” program at the MTC Training Centre, an event dedicated to supporting people affected by cancer.

This gathering was a great opportunity to share compassion, support, and solidarity, while spreading a message of hope and encouragement to cancer patients and their families.

My sincere thanks and deep appreciation to the organizers and all participants who contributed to this meaningful and humanitarian event through their presence and support.
