The Picabeen Community Centre provides a range of welfare services and activities for the residents of Mitchelton, Keperra, Enoggera, Ferny Grove, Ferny Hills, Arana Hills, Everton Park and Everton Hills. There is a particular focus on youth counselling and engagement, as well as activities for seniors.

Every Monday Picabeen Community Centre runs a free playgroup from 9.30-11.30am.

All Caregivers are welcome to attend!

We do a variety of activities each week, including arts and crafts, water play, story-time, and rotate toys, puzzles and games.

Callout for Christmas Volunteers!

Can you help spread Christmas Spirit? Join us on 10 December to assist in packing Christmas hampers with donations that have been provided. Picabeen expects to provide hampers for 150+ individuals experiencing food insecurity in the local community.

These hampers are stocked with festive treats, pantry items and toiletries whilst also providing a sense of care, dignity, and hope during a time that can be especially difficult for many in our community, please help us make this possible!

Queensland disaster season is here, making it a great time to learn how to protect your home from flooding.

Attend the Flood Resilient Building Design Pop-up Display at the State Library of Queensland to explore real-world examples, practical solutions and guidance to help make homes and communities more resilient.

There will also be short talks and live demonstrations showcasing the benefits of flood-resilient design and simple ways to improve building outcomes.

Reminder for Tomorrow: Seniors Week at Picabeen Community Centre

We will be hosting a Guest speaker and Morning Tea on Thursday the 22nd October from 10-11.30am to celebrate Seniors Week.

The Guest Speaker is Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Dave Hagger, presenting Staying Strong After 60.

If you have been looking to learn more about maintaining strength, balance, confidence and independence without needing a gym membership or complicated exercises then this is for you!

We would like to extend a thank you to everyone that attended our Mental Health Week Expo here at Picabeen Community Centre! I also give special thanks to Aunty Kathryn who led a Smoking Ceremony in order to cleanse our minds and space of negative thoughts and feelings. The event was warmly received as community members eagerly took in the scents of eucalyptus and respectfully listened to Aunty Kathryn's experiences as a First Nations Elder.

The Smoking Ceremony - Cleansing and Connection:
A smoking ceremony is an ancient First Nations practice used to cleanse and purify spaces, people and energy. It is performed using smoke from native plants (traditionally eucalyptus leaves). The ceremony welcomes people into a space or onto Country. It signals respect and creates an intentional beginning.
