The Ferny Creek Horticultural Society

The Ferny Creek Horticultural Society The Ferny Creek Horticultural Society was established in 1932. The 10 acre Ferny Creek Ornamental Garden Reserve is developed and maintained by the Society

The Ferny Creek Horticultural Society is a self funded volunteer organisation that is constituted to:

Promote and encourage the study, practice and development of horticulture
Bring into close association members of the community having a common interest in horticulture
Provide and operate facilities for these purposes
Within the organisation there are a series of specialised sub-groups. Members

are invited to join each or all groups depending on their interests. These include:

Rhododendron & Camellia
Rock Garden
Craft
Garden & Grounds
Propagating
Photography
Each group conducts a monthly meeting concentrating on the development of their particular speciality. The monthly meetings offer interesting talks by informed speakers, discussion groups, garden visits and practical sessions. Most meetings have bench exhibits for which plants and flowers do not have to be of Show quality, nor do they need to be rare or unusual specimens. It is an opportunity to show what is growing well in your garden and to obtain help with identification of plants or advice for plants that are not thriving. All groups support the three Flower Shows and the Plant Collectors Sale and Garden Expo. Monies raised support the Society’s activities and maintenance of the garden and infrastructure. On Monday and Thursday mornings general gardening and maintenance is carried out in the garden. An extensive horticultural library is available for members to use and a newsletter is published regularly. Membership subscriptions are low cost and there is no need to subscribe before attending one of our activities. Please follow the membership link for further information on how to join. If you enjoy gardening you will fit right in. Specialist experience, whilst welcome, is not necessary.

Thank you to Chloe, great grand-daughter of our FCHS member Marion, who once again laid a wreath on behalf of FCHS at the ANZAC service today (pictured with DR RSL President Bob Richards).

And THANK YOU to the team of budding florists at FCHS who made the wreaths to support our local Sassafras Ferny Creek CFA, and Ferny Creek Primary School. The wreaths were beautiful!

The Dawn service at the Ferny Creek Memorial is always a moving service, with a Lone Piper, and horses and birdsong to be heard as the dawn breaks.

Lest we forget.
