How different was life in the hills 70 years ago? Garry Trompf (b.1940) grew up in Sassafras in the 1950s, where his world was focussed on family, church, Scouting and junior football at Olinda. In this coming of age reminiscence Garry recalls those days โ€“ and his adventures with older brother Vanne โ€“ with great clarity even though he left the hills more than 60 years ago. As an academic, he went on to become Emeritus Professor in the History of Ideas and Adjunct Professor in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, where he held a personal chair for ten years. But the influence of those early days remained. Read about growing up in Sassafras in the 1950s (and much more besides) in our ๐—ข๐—ฐ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜€ series on the societyโ€™s web page.
