Brighton Art Society is a well established, member run, non-profit organisation offering art classes and workshops for all ages from teenagers to retirees.

Join us this Sunday 1st November 2-4pm for Drop By Drawing at the BAS Studio.

Join a roomful of people who think they can draw. No special skills rquired. just bring a pencil & paper & an open mind.
This is going to be fast where your mind will be moved & anything can happen on paper. This is a non tutored session but you will learn & it will be fun!

Our convenors are Martin Allen (Accomplished sketch book artist) and Roger Clarke (our Art of the Pencil Tutor).

Cost is $10 entry at the door.

Thanks to the artists who submitted their artworks for our 2026 Annual Exhibition which is coming up soon at the amazing .arts gallery.
We had a fantastic number of submissions once again. An indication that it should be a great event & that our Art Society is in very healthy shape.

BAS offers several options for Untutored Model Sessions for it's Members.

Current BAS Membership is required to access our Untutored Model Sessions.
New members are welcome to join at any stage throughout the year.
All levels of artistic ability & mediums are welcome.

In general, the focus of these Untutored Groups, is in painting and drawing from life models.
Some of the sessions work from the n**e figure and others from clothed portrait sitters.

Attendance is on a casual basis, so you pay only when you attend. The fee is to cover the cost of the model.

Untutored Sessions are run by a convenor who is a BAS Member.

Congratulations to our BAS life drawing tutor & highly talented artist .zuccolo for her recent “Highly Commended” special mention at The Portia Geach Memorial Award 2026 Opening.

Mastering Watercolour: A Simple Approach with artist Lindsay McDougall

In this course Lindsay will take you through the essentials needed to make watercolour work for you.

Understanding the materials, paints, papers brushes. Learning the techniques, washes, layering, lifting and using the white of the paper to create beautiful light filled effects.

The focus of the course is to learn how to become a creative artist.

A Systematic Approach to Portrait Painting: Portraiture, with artist Lindsay McDougall

Portrait drawing can be a daunting endeavor. I teach a simple systematic approach that will guide you in understanding structure, proportions and shading to complete an accurate and creative portrait. Breaking down each feature into its most simple lines giving you the ability really observe your subject and give you the confidence needed to succeed.

All mediums welcomed. Material list issued on booking, drawing supplies essential other materials own choice.

This class will work from images.
