People of Brighton Rec 🩶

Every Centre needs a Diana. 🙏

As one of our Centre Supervisors, Diana is the kind of person who just gets it: the community, the energy, the reason people keep coming back.

Off the clock? You’ll find her in the bay. Diana discovered open water swimming and I tell you what, Brighton beach in winter is not for the faint hearted.

RESPECT! 🫡

If you’re visiting Brighton and ask Diana where to go, she’ll send you straight to Little Ox or the Little Sister for an eggs benedict that will change your life.

But her favourite place in Brighton? She’ll tell you the same thing every time.
Right here! 🥹

Did you know your child’s handwriting might have nothing to do with how much they practise writing?

If your little one is struggling with pen grip, letter formation or anything that needs careful, controlled hand movement, it might be worth looking at what’s happening with their bigger movements first.

Gross motor skills, the big, whole-body movements like jumping, rolling, balancing and swinging are the foundation for fine motor skills. The small, precise movements that handwriting needs.

In gymnastics, kids develop both. They learn to control their bodies in space. They build strength in their hands, wrists and fingers. They develop the coordination and focus that eventually shows up in the classroom.

Our gymnastics instructors see it all the time. Kids who come in struggling with body awareness and leave with a confidence and control that flows into everything else they do.

Strong bodies build strong learners. :)

Did you know gymnastics is the foundation of almost every sport your child will ever try?

Our very own Ally (former competitive gymnast & coach) is a mum who made sure her kids did gymnastics before anything else.

Balance, coordination, body awareness, spatial sense: gymnastics builds it all, and every other sport benefits.

That’s the heart of our Play Gym program. Give your child the crucial foundational skills they need.

Come and see what Ally’s talking about. ✨

Your mind won’t slow down just because you tell it to.

That’s what makes traditional meditation so hard for a lot of people; it’s the absence of a task.

But our pottery instructor Beata has a different take.

Pottery gives your mind AND your hands something to do. You’re not thinking about your to-do list because you’re too focused on not collapsing your bowl.

It’s meditation. 🏺

This is what we mean when we say movement and making is medicine. Your nervous system doesn’t care how you got there. It just knows you’re calm 😇

Come find your version of stillness. We have a feeling it might involve clay 😀
