Have you seen the Holloway Bend Scout Group trailer out and about? A big belated congratulations to the Cubs who had a Bayside District billy cart derby a few weeks ago and took out 1st place!

The Rotary Club of Brighton are proud to have been able to support these young people get out and about with the trailer - sponsored with the support of a Rotary Foundation - Rotary District 9800 grant. As one of Scouts Victoria’s fastest growing scout groups they have needed this trailer so this Bayside group’s young people can make a difference, go on their adventures with the help of the dedicated volunteers and support their scouting experience ☺️

Brighton North Rotary are cohosting this free community documentary The Plastic Country, at St Leonard’s Uniting Church. This film is produced by a local Sydneysider, Karl Glanznig and shows the problem of not just plastic rubbish in our waters but microplastic in the bodies of all Australians. On Saturday 26 September, while most of Melbourne were gearing up for the 2026 AFL Grand Final, a group of intrepid young people from across Victoria gathered in Williamstown to become the new crew of trainee sailors on the Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge aboard the - Melbourne’s Tall Ship. Under the grey skies and a lot of excitement, these adventurers boarded the ship, met fellow crew mates and watch leaders and “got stuck straight into learning the ropes”. The Rotary Club of Brighton are proud to be one of the sponsor Clubs to enable these future leaders to take on this unique experience - already they’ve learnt how to set sails, how to follow a bearing, and climb aloft to the top yard and out onto the jib boom! Divided into their watches they’ll spend the next few nights aboard and on the Bay.

This week Rotary Club of Brighton volunteers joined the Rotary Club of Canterbury and students from St Leonard’s College in the FORaMEAL packing day. Our volunteers joined middle school social action students to do an incredible job and pack 13,000 meals in this fun annual event.

A single FORaMEAL pack provides a displaced family with a nutritious meal for six people made up up of rice, oats, lentils. FORaMEAL, a project of the Rotary Club of Canterbury is an initiative to help provide emergency relief meals for those impacted by natural disasters. Each year over 500,000 meals are provided free of charge to vulnerable individuals and families across Europe, Asia and Africa. in times of disaster.

Did you know the Rotary Club of Brighton’s fabulous fundraisers such as the Bayside Comedy Extravaganza helps us to raise funds to enable us to help others - whether supporting Bayside’s most vulnerable with organisations such as BayCISS, providing opportunities for young people to reach their potential with local projects such as the Holloway Bend Scout Trailer, Hampton Primary’s Kitchen Garden (and Brighton Secondary College’s mobile cafe - this social enterprise is coming soon), amazing international projects or supporting secondary students to take up opportunities with initiatives such as Science and Engineering Challenge, Model United Nations Assembly, and personal/leadership development camps such as RYPEN, RYLA and the Rotary Youth Sailing Challenge.

Thanks to the Community Bank Highett’s sponsorship, the Rotary Club of Brighton have been able to support the Bayside Community across many, many initiatives to support high impact community and youth projects. From our Bayspeak competition (supporting secondary students to develop their public speaking skills) to our annual Senior Citizens Lunches and Bayside Family Christmas Event to help the most vulnerable in our community connect and feel supported, plus much, much more. Together we will also be supporting Moorabbin Primary School with a brand new stage - officially launching on the 15th October (watch this space)…

And that’s a wrap for 2026 September RYPEN Camp! This weekend 36 secondary school students from across Victoria were able to participate in this iconic leadership development camp at Camp Getaway. The Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) for District 9800 is a weekend leadership camp for students aged 15–17 in years 9, 10, and 11. Facilitated by experienced camp leaders participants do team-building, problem-solving, goal-setting, and confidence-building exercises through a mix of lecture-style sessions and adventure-based learning
