When ICU Associate Nurse Unit Manager Nova crossed the finish line of the Sydney Marathon, she wasn't just collecting one of the nicest running medals we've seen, she was creating a real difference for her ICU colleagues.

Through her incredible efforts, Nova raised more than $5,000 for wellbeing initiatives in The Alfred ICU, supporting the people who dedicate their careers to caring for some of our most unwell patients.

We're so grateful for Nova's efforts and proud to have her as part of the community.

Congratulations to Director of the Multidisciplinary Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre (MAPrc) Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM on receiving the 2026 Australian Mental Health Prize, recognising her outstanding contribution to mental health research, treatment and advocacy in Australia.

For more than three decades, Professor Kulkarni has been a leader in advancing women's mental health, pioneering research into the role of hormones in mental illness and helping shape more specialised, accessible mental health care for women. Her achievements include founding the Monash Alfred Psychiatry Research Centre and HER Centre Australia.

👏 Congratulations on this remarkable and well-deserved recognition.

Twenty-one years ago, Ben Turner's heart stopped after he was hit by a tram in South Melbourne. Thanks to the incredible work of first responders and The Alfred's trauma team, he survived.

This October, Ben will run the Melbourne Marathon and fundraise for The Alfred Foundation as a way of saying thank you. 🏃‍♂️❤️

Hundreds of staff in The Alfred's ICU are learning more about an essential life support thanks to a new training tool - only made possible thanks to generous support of our Lifesaving Equipment Fund.

The device is being used to help staff develop mastery of temporary cardiac pacing, an essential type of life support needed after cardiac surgery.

Dr Mike Purvis-Smith, pictured, is thrilled to now have what he regards as the best teaching tool for this core skill - thanks to the support of donors.

Just a couple of weeks to go until Run Melbourne on July 19!
Meet Tim, a Charity Superstar for Team Alfred at this year’s event.
Tim was inspired to raise money for the hospital while visiting his dad earlier this year, who had been urgently flown to The Alfred’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from Wangaratta: “Seeing the ICU staff and everyone at the hospital with the work that they do, I thought raising money while taking part in Run Melbourne would be a small token of appreciation.”
