Go Dry this July and support patients at The Alfred - registrations for Dry July 2026 are now open!

This year we’re fundraising to refurbish the radiotherapy waiting room at The Alfred, creating a more comfortable and supportive space for patients and their families.

Patients undergoing radiotherapy often spend extended and repeated periods in the waiting area during treatment. A refurbished space will:

👉 Create a calmer, more welcoming environment
👉 Support patient wellbeing and comfort
👉 Reduce stress during a challenging time
👉 Better reflect the high-quality, compassionate care delivered by the Radiation Oncology team (some of the amazing team members are pictured below).

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Australia & New Zealand initiative is having "a transformative effect on some people's identity and pride" at The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham hospitals.

We had some special visitors at The Alfred recently when long-time volunteer and supporter Doreen Phillips dropped in.
It was part of a multi-generational visit, alongside her granddaughter Teagan and great grandson Braxton.
Doreen was overjoyed to see her name on a board remembering those who either gave or inspired gifts to the 2010 expansion of The Alfred Centre.
We love our volunteers at The Alfred Foundation and we are thrilled to support International Volunteers Week this week/last week.

UTIs (urinary tract infections) affect millions of people - but diagnosis and treatment often fall short, especially for those with recurring infections.

Researchers at The Alfred are working to change that, developing smarter diagnostics and more personalised treatments to improve care and outcomes.

Backed by community support, this work could mean faster diagnoses, better treatments and fewer repeat infections.

We had a wonderful time during National Heart Week last week. Among our guests were long-time supporters, Maria and Michele Losinno, and their lovely family.
Doubling up the occasion, we also celebrated Michele's 85th birthday! We were lucky enough to hear from two of our staff, Lorelle and Hannah, from the cardiac unit and some of the amazing developments that have been achieved recently in that area.
The Losinnos have been donating to The Alfred for almost 50 years, initially inspired by the lifesaving care that a neighbour received at the hospital. We thank them for their ongoing commitment and generosity!

It is always exciting for us in The Alfred Foundation philanthropy team when one of our supporters is recognised elsewhere for their generosity.

We would like to give a belated congratulations to Denise Palmer on previously receiving the Citizen of the Year award from the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. Denise received the award primarily for her involvement with the Hastings Police Senior Citizens Register, overseeing a program that supported more than 950 vulnerable individuals.

Denise has a long history with The Alfred, receiving operations on her cancer and radiation treatment off and on since 2008. While she is now receiving treatment closer to home, her thoughts are always with The Alfred - especially Professor Jeremy Millar and his team in helping her and many others combat cancer.

"I knew I wanted to give something back to The Alfred, and so I was happy to make a bequest to The Alfred in my Will," she said. "I want it to go towards cancer research, which is vital in fighting this disease.
"Thanks to this dedication by The Alfred, I feel so lucky to have recently celebrated my 76th birthday.
"Every day I wake up and look out on my other joy - my little, colourful garden. Growing flowers, herbs and a few vegetables has been great therapy for me during chemo."
