A special visit to The Alfred recently saw husband Dennis and son Matthew view the honour board recognising the generous estate gift of Alison Arms.

Dennis and Alison were deeply grateful for the care Alison received from the team at The Alfred, affectionately known to them as 'The Alfred Angels', which gave them extra years together.

Alison's legacy will continue to make a difference for future patients and families, helping ensure exceptional care can continue for generations to come.

Just one week to go, and we're within touching distance of our Dry July fundraising goal!

Together, we've raised more than $23,000 for the refurbishment of the Radiotherapy Waiting Room at The Alfred, leaving us so close to our $25,000 target.

A big thank you to everyone who has donated, gone alcohol-free, or helped spread the word. And congratulations to Alfred staff Mark Johnstone and Dr Patrick Tolan, who are helping lead the charge while proudly showing off their Dry July prize packs.

There's still time to make an impact. Help us finish Dry July with a final fundraising push and reach our goal.

A shoutout for another one of our extraordinary fundraisers who is taking part in Run Melbourne on Sunday!

Fran has raised more than $1000 for her tilt at the half-marathon, which she is doing in recognition of the care that her husband Michael received at The Alfred and Caulfield hospitals after a motorcycle accident last year.

“I wanted to thank everyone we came across – from the cleaners, to the people who brought the meals and of course the amazing medical team who also came up to visit. The team in 5 West was amazing.

“Everyone was super caring and supportive and made a huge difference in making him feel like everything was going to be okay.”

Michael is now back on his feet and has made a great recovery.

Just a couple of weeks to go until Run Melbourne on July 19!
Meet Tim, a Charity Superstar for Team Alfred at this year’s event.
Tim was inspired to raise money for the hospital while visiting his dad earlier this year, who had been urgently flown to The Alfred’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from Wangaratta: “Seeing the ICU staff and everyone at the hospital with the work that they do, I thought raising money while taking part in Run Melbourne would be a small token of appreciation.”

There’s only two days left to support our EOFY appeal!

Every donation over $2 is tax-deductible and will fund incredible advancements in bioengineered skin for burns patients.

The Victorian Adult Burns Service at The Alfred is the state's only specialist burns service for adults. We treat more than 400 of the most severly burned adult inpatients every year, and more than 2,000 outpatients.

Now we need your help to take this latest breakthrough to more patients, and develop sytems that will enable bioengineered skin to be produced to burns units across Australia, and in time, the world!

There's still time to attend our next P.A.R.T.Y program on June 23!

This impactful 2.5-hour session is designed for older youth, their families, and friends, providing an honest and informative insight into the consequences of risky behaviour.

Thanks to the generous philanthropic support of the Highland Foundation, the program will feature:

Powerful video content and live demonstrations

Presentations from Alfred Health clinicians, first responders, and allied health professionals

A compelling first-hand account from a former trauma patient

We managed to catch ICU Trauma Nurse Consultant Kate just as she’d finished hosting another Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth aka P.A.R.T.Y program (that's a mannequin, in case you're wondering!)

P.A.R.T.Y is aimed at giving young people a better understanding of the consequences of risk-taking behaviours, as well as providing a behind-the-scenes look at what happens at a busy hospital.

“Today, we brought a school group here into the ICU. We talked them through what’s clinically involved in caring for patients and showed them the kind of equipment and machines we use.

“We also shared the story of one of our current patients - someone otherwise much like them. Then, they got to see the actual patient and meet their family.”

While school sessions are booked out this year, places are still available for next Tuesday’s out-of-hours session.

Open to members of the public aged 16-26, along with their family and friends, Kate said the advantage of these sessions is parents and guardians can come along.

“Doing the program together can be a powerful shared experience and can trigger conversations between parents and their kids long after the event is over.” Kate said.
