Two Ordinary Member seats on the NCCA Committee of Management are open this year, and we’d love to hear from you.

No prior board experience is needed. The Committee is committed to diversity and gender balance, and we especially encourage women to put their hand up. Nominations close at 5.00pm on Monday 2 November.

One week to go... and if you haven't registered yet, here is the reason why you should join:

From January 2027, Australian businesses, universities and research organisations can apply for Horizon Europe funding directly and lead their own consortia. That's the EU's €93.5bn research and innovation programme, opening up in a way it never has before.

Jason Collins (European Australian Business Council (EABC)) and Jacqueline Clements (PhD) (Dutchlink) will walk through what that means in practice.

Hygge meets gezelligheid, and there are still some tickets left... both words usually get translated as cosiness, and anyone Danish or Dutch will tell you that doesn't really work. On 20 October you can find out for yourself.

The NCCA and the Danish Australian Chamber of Commerce and Culture (DACCC) are hosting an evening of drinks and conversation at Denmark House. Dutch, Danish, Australian and wider European faces, all very welcome.

Cruise with the Europeans is back for its 17th year on Thursday 12 November, and the NCCA is on board together with Dutchlink, our NSW counterpart. More than 500 guests from chambers across Europe head out on Sydney Harbour for two hours of drinks, canapés and networking.

It is a good chance to meet the Dutchlink community in Sydney, and worth planning ahead if you are coming up from Melbourne.

There is a company in Delft that grows coffins out of mushrooms. Earlier this month it made its first Australian sale, with a burial at Springwood Cemetery in the Blue Mountains.

Loop Biotech, founded by Bob Hendrikx, grows its Living Cocoon from mycelium and h**p fibre in about a week. It returns to the soil in 45 days.
Their journey is one we see a lot for Dutch products: proven at home, held up by Australian biosecurity, then sold through a strong local partner.

There is a company in Delft that grows coffins out of mushrooms, and earlier this month it made its first sale in Australia, with a burial at Springwood Cemetery in the Blue Mountains.

Biotech has been growing its Living Cocoon since 2020. Mycelium, the root network under mushrooms, held together with h**p fibre left over from farming, packed around a mould and left in a warm room until the fungus fills out the shape.

Take away the mushrooms and the route it took here is the one a lot of Dutch products follow. Proven at home in a market that pays for circular design, held up by biosecurity rather than by any lack of demand, then sold through a local partner who already had the customer relationships.
