Ethan was awarded a 2025 Youth Grant to represent Australia at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo as a member of the Australian Basketball Team.

Competing on the world stage was more than just a sporting achievement. It was an opportunity for Ethan to challenge himself, grow in confidence, and prove that deaf and hard of hearing athletes belong at the highest levels of competition.

“This experience strengthened my confidence both as an athlete and as a person. I learned that I am good enough to compete with the best. It showed me what is possible when barriers are removed and the right support is in place.”

Through the Deaf Children Australia Youth Grants program, young people like Ethan are gaining opportunities to develop valuable life skills including leadership, teamwork, discipline, and self-belief - that will continue to shape their futures both on and off the court.

Your generosity is empowering more young people to reach their goals through our Youth Grants program. Thank you for making this possible.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Deaf Awareness Training session in Footscray, VIC.

It was a fantastic session filled with engaged participants, thoughtful discussions, and interactive learning. We loved seeing people come together to learn more about Deaf culture, inclusive communication, and the simple actions that can help create more welcoming environments for deaf and hard of hearing people.

One of the most rewarding parts of these sessions is seeing individuals from different backgrounds share experiences, ask questions, and build their confidence in creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels respected, valued, and comfortable.

Inclusion starts with understanding, and every conversation helps build stronger communities, workplaces, and schools. Interested in bringing Deaf Awareness Training to your workplace, school, or community group?

📩 We'd love to hear from you. Submit an expression of interest and let's work together to build more inclusive spaces for everyone.

Thomas was awarded a 2025 Youth Grant to represent Australia at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo as a member of the Aussie Deaf Seals Swim Team.

Competing in multiple breaststroke events, medley races, and relay teams, Thomas proudly represented Australia on the world stage while showcasing the talent, dedication, and determination of deaf and hard of hearing athletes.

For Thomas, the experience was about much more than racing.
“Completing this project meant far more than just competing in races. It was the culmination of my dedicated training and commitment and represented a major milestone in my swimming journey.”

Being selected for the Aussie Deaf Seals Swim Team was an incredible honour, particularly as one of only two swimmers chosen from New South Wales. Along the way, Thomas also used the opportunity to raise awareness of Deaf and Hard of Hearing sport within his local community and inspire others to pursue their goals.

Through the Deaf Children Australia Youth Grants program, young people like Thomas are able to access life-changing opportunities, build confidence, and represent their communities on national and international stages.

Your generosity is empowering more young people to reach their goals through our Youth Grants program. Thank you for making this possible.

Emma remembers the day she found out her daughter Darcy was deaf.

Not with shock, with clarity. Her instincts had already told her something was different.

What followed was years of appointments, hearing aids, cochlear implants, learning Auslan and navigating a world that didn't always understand.

When Emma told family and friends, some said they were "sorry." Others didn't know what to say at all.

"So many people perceive deafness as a terrible affliction. But to us, she was still just Darcy."

But even with that strength, Emma will tell you the hardest part wasn't the medical system.

"It was the silence between people who understood."

That is why Emma became a Deaf Children Australia Parent Mentor. Because she knew exactly what it felt like to sit in those early weeks — overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure where to turn.

Today, Emma is the person Christine got to call.

"I've been where you are. And you're going to be okay."

Your gift this tax time helps train more parents like Emma - so every family hears those words when they need them most.
