This June, we are incredibly thrilled to welcome one of Poland’s leading string quartets, The Lutosławski Quartet, to Melbourne for their Australian debut. In a week-long residency, the Quartet will lead our ANAM String musicians in two performances, bringing to life and celebrating the works of Polish composers, including Lutosławski, Penderecki, and Grażyna Bacewicz. In the second performance, Leaves of an Unwritten Diary, we will premiere a new work, written by Marcin Markowicz, second violin of the Quartet.

The Quartet will also present an open masterclass at the start of their residency, providing an intimate view to their interpretations of string chamber works, prepared by our musicians.

We would love to extend an invitation in your newspaper to the wider Polish community (and any music lover) in Melbourne to come and join us in welcoming the Lutosławski Quartet and experiencing their music.

🇵🇱🥘 Bigos appreciation post! 🥘🇵🇱

We were delighted to see Peter Hitchener embracing one of Poland’s most loved traditional dishes — bigos! Also known as Hunter’s Stew, this hearty and flavour-packed dish has been warming Polish homes and family tables for generations and is often said to taste even better the next day.

Seeing Polish traditions and cuisine being shared and celebrated in the community always brings a smile to our faces. We may just have an honorary Pole in the making! 😊❤️

Today we celebrate a very important moment in Polish history 🇵🇱

On this day in 1791, the Constitution of 3 May (Konstytucja 3 maja) was adopted by the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It is recognised as the first modern constitution in Europe and the second in the world, after the United States.

The Constitution of 3 May 1791 was a groundbreaking reform aimed at strengthening the state, improving governance, and creating a fairer and more stable society. Although it remained in effect for only a short time, it has had a lasting impact on Polish identity and national pride.

Today, it stands as a powerful symbol of freedom, democracy, and enlightened reform, and continues to inspire generations of Poles around the world.

🇵🇱 3 Maja – a proud day in our history.

💦 Śmigus-Dyngus — Wet Monday Fun! 💦

Another beloved Polish Easter tradition, Śmigus-Dyngus (Lany Poniedziałek), is celebrated on Easter Monday and marks the joyful close of the Easter season. Dating back to the 14th century, this playful custom is all about water — and plenty of it!

Traditionally, boys would sprinkle girls with water as a sign of affection, while girls could offer colourful pisanki or small tokens for good luck to avoid a soaking. Legend has it — a splash on this day brings good fortune for the year ahead!

Today, it’s all about laughter and community, with friends, family, and neighbours joining in the fun — no one is safe from a surprise splash! 💧

How are you celebrating Śmigus-Dyngus this year? Share your photos and join the fun with our ! 🐣🌷
