🎵 Healthy Brain, Happy Mind
New research from Monash University has found that listening to music regularly in older age could lower the risk of dementia by up to 40%.
The study, which analysed more than 10,000 older Australians, revealed that those who “always” listened to music were significantly less likely to develop dementia than those who rarely or never did.
Music doesn’t just lift our spirits — it strengthens the brain.
Researchers believe regular engagement with music supports cognitive health by:
🎶 Reducing stress and anxiety
❤️ Improving heart and mood health
🧠Stimulating multiple areas of the brain
And it’s not just listening — playing an instrument or singing along can amplify the benefits.
There may be no single “silver bullet” against dementia, but keeping our brains active and connected through music is a powerful, joyful way to protect long-term mental health.
At Rewire, we believe in nurturing the mind through connection, creativity and purpose — and music, it seems, does all three.
